Gary, that one was by West Coast singer Wes Buchanan. I think Gene Davis sang harmony. I have a couple of copies of that 45 around somewhere. Could be Mooney on steel? Smokey used to perform at the Magnolia Opry in Texas in the 90s. He was a DJ in Houston in the fifties. Here's a couple of shuffles ...

I was just wondering if anybody knew what steelers played on the Houston area records labels back in the '50s and '60s. Labels like D, Allstar, Triumph, Skill, Nu-Star, Stoneway. I'm know some of the names but only through magazines and records. I have a KFOX ad in a magazine that has a some of those guys in it.
Larry Scott is mentioned in the old "Country Music Life" quite a bit.

Wasn't the Newhall record label Cliffie Stone's label? Jack Tucker, Eddie Drake, Smiley Monroe, the Leightons all recorded on that label.
