Thank you for responding Doug! Great hearing directly from the horses' mouth. Lol. Okay, your technique has evolved through the years. You are now using somewhat expensive tools. However, I am not sure I detect that much difference from your earlier more simple approach. I think that you are quite s...

Doug Beaumier's Lap Steel Sound
This is my first post on this section of the forum. I admire the sound that Doug's lap steels produce on his YouTube videos. It is my opinion that Doug is certainly one the finest lap steel players alive today! When he is asked about amplification, he states that he plays directly into the computer ...

Volume Pedal Usage
I have never used one and I am wondering if I should. Maybe this poll can bring light to the subject. Thank you for participating.

Question about pickup placement
Can anyone testify (with a fair amount of certainty) the sweet spots for bridge to pickup distance if you are only using one pickup? I know that this distance is important for tone, but I can't experiment to find the ideal distance. Has anyone done this? I have a GeorgeL pickup for a 7 string build ...

Playing by note
I read music, but for steel guitar I TAB the notes and learn the TAB. I can therefore play anything written for non-pedal, but I do not sight read per se for steel guitar.(On the other hand on my trombone sight reading comes natural for me.) TuxGuitar, which I just learned about on this forum is goi...

TAB Templates for word processor
Can anyone give me direction on obtaining a program that would accommodate generating TAB in a word processing program? I would imagine it exists, but I have no idea of where to find it. The idea of generating typed tab and the ability to print it off a standard home printer appeals to my needs. My ...

Yes, Nic I concede that this tuning is close enough to a C13 to call it such, although it technically is not a true C13. And you are correct that the 9th and 11th do not have to be there to call it a C13. No problem. I have considered the tuning you mention but I prefer the higher Bb and I would pre...

New 7 string build tuning
After beginning a 7 string fry-pan build a couple of years ago, I set it aside to concentrate on auto restoration. Now I am getting my steel guitar interest rekindled and I am concentrating on the tuning that I will use when the guitar is finished. There are only two tunings that I ever used on 6 st...

Performing with TAB?
I have always memorized my music when performing in public. One time I got lost in the middle of the song and found it difficult to get back on track, and I wished I had something to help me apart from memory. I am working on a new song that is loaded with slants and I am thinking of using TAB when ...

Just had the opportunity to listen to the album for the first time in its entirety. Absolutely excellent and entertaining. Mr. Neer is a pro in every sense of the word. I am glad I could contribute in a very small way. I would love to see this combination live performing these numbers. Mr. Neer, wou...

I imagine that this person simply has used his collection as an easy means to wealth. He probably has purchased the guitars at very low prices and because of supply and demand the value of each instrument is very much more than what he originally invested. Multiply that phenomenon by the number of i...

I appreciate all of the responses. This instrument appeals to me because I anticipate that the sound will be somewhere in between a lap and pedal. I am not abandoning my love for the sound of non-pedal. Just listen to Paul Franklin play his non-pedal on Martina McBride's rendition of Hank Williams, ...
