RIP Bill Keith

Like many of you, I learned twice from Bill's books, first from the Earl Scruggs book, then from the Pedal Steel book. Bill was a musician's musician, a gentleman, and a scholar. Rest in Peace, Bill. We all loved you.

Thanks!

Michael,

Thanks! The SGF is the greatest place. I'll get some measurements off the rods and place an order. Tom was in the process of moving his shop or he would have replaced them when he did the rest of the work. I'm looking forward to putting this finishing touch in place.

Thanks again,
--Joe :-)

WTB Sho-Bud end tuner nylon nut stock

I finally refurbished a Sho-Bud Pro I that I bought here on the forum a few years ago. Tom Bradshaw added a knee for me and gave it a really great tune up. The one thing I'd like to do now is to replace a couple of the end tuner nylon nuts. Anybody know where I can get some hexagonal nylon nut stock...

Great advice above to contact Martin and ask. The solvent I've personally used for years on guitars (including a 1977 D-35 I bought new) is lemon oil. With any solvent or cleaning product you end up using, be sure to "turn the cloth over" frequently and/or change the cloth frequently as yo...

Old Spice Boys - Friday November 21 @ 8pm - SF Bay Area, Ca

The Old Spice Boys are opening a night of Americana music at Don Quixote's International Music Hall tonight at 8pm. The venue is in the town of Felton, a few miles off CA Highway 17/I-880, not far from Santa Cruz and the general SF Bay Area. If you make it to the show, please stop by and identify yo...

I think it depends somewhat on other experience you have playing musical instruments, particularly stringed instruments. I played dobro before starting on steel, so I feel it was easier for me than for someone who had never used a bar before, and certainly easier than for someone who had never used ...

We played a gig at a bar and my NashVille 112, usually quiet as a mouse, was humming badly at playing volume. Two sources of noise there drove my rig crazy: neon lights in the bar and the sound man's PA had an older power filter on it, the kind that dumps its AC noise back onto the common line. Next...

Re: turbo flip by peterson

It comes with a special bracket for the steel guitar leg as opposed to some with a mic stand bracket. I love my Peterson Stroboflip! And the bracket Tamara mentions comes in two sizes: if the one that comes with it doesn't fit your steel's legs, they'll send you the other sized one for free. It com...

When I first got mine, I had a similar observation about the L-10K. Would you happen to be playing through an amp or directly into a mixer (for practice)? When played directly into a mixer, I get very little "travel", as you describe. Could this be what is happening to you? My L-10K perfor...

Recommend SF Bay Area studio

The band I play in is looking for a studio in the SF Bay Area (preferably south bay) that would be a good choice for recording alternative country and Americana type music (Gram Parsons, Flying Burrito Bros., etc.), preferably somebody who's seen a pedal steel before. Do you have a Bay Area studio y...

Bill Rudolph (Williams builder) puts notches on the hook ends of the rods to correspond to the rod position (1 notch = pedal 1, 2 notches = pedal 2, etc.). I love this because I can run my thumbnail over the rod and easily tell which is which in pretty dark conditions when setting up. It would be ea...

What is Paul Franklin doing here?

There's this extended upward progression Paul Franklin plays in this very cool YouTube video of him playing with Dire Straits: http://youtube.com/watch?v=W6lIB3mmDH8 that starts at 0:09 and ends around 0:11. I have heard this progression in lots of other songs and would love to figure out. In the vi...
