Pole pieces freed up from underneath with pliers and GT85, extra magnets removed and now all is well.
Screw adjustment is VERY sensitive and makes a massive difference
Thanks for all of the good advice - SGF is sooo good
Cheers

National, Supro etc string through pickups
Got some new side magnets from Mojo in the UK and before fitting them I noticed that the pole adjusting screws were seized. (Fixed now) Under the pup assembly I found 4 magnets as in the photo(my pencil markings 1-4) with nothing holding them to the assembly base apart from magnetism. Magnets 2 &...

National, Supro etc string through pickups
Just plugged in my 1946 (ish) Supro Supreme after quite a while and the string-to-string balance is very uneven. Swapping the magnets around produces variations on this and the magnets themselves seem very weak. Also, the output is much lower than I remember. I've picked up from other members' posti...

Hello again after 2+ years
Must be at least two years since I last posted - left academe and set up a risk management consultancy (mainly music biz and theme parks etc). Here's the link to the latest project http://www.jublencowe.com/. First track has Celtic Cross Weiss intro, one of Neil's first ones, so thanks due there. Li...

Pickup magnets
I'm going to make a 7 string lap pickup and wondered if anyone has info/opinion on using...
1. ... one long bar magnet with the N and S poles at each end.
2. ... small cylindrical neodymium magnets

Multi FX
I use a Boss GT5, similar to Twayn's but have just got hold of a Roland VG88 which works as a straight guitar multi FX unit as well as doing ridiculous things (drop D, DADGAD, capo 7, 12 string etc) at the touch of a switch) with a Godin XTSA. I find the vol pedal on the GT5 a bit notchy but certain...

I bought the body and (one piece old rosewood) neck off UK eBay for £26 and very quickly gave up trying to source original spares at any price near reasonable. So then..... http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0808/5321_DSCN2529_1.jpg http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0808/5321_DSCN2530_2.jpg 1...

Fender Triple 8
I put this on eBay until today (Item number 230285964171 - there are some photos and full description) but had to withdraw it. If the eBay link is dead I'll post the info if you let me know £400 or p/x for a single 8 (doing smaller gigs these days!) or Tele or something interesting. Probably only of...

Basil H just came round and after <15 seconds with his Tribotone I'm convinced. Sounds really good on Weiss - I'll expand on that - fatter, smoother, quieter.

My good friend Larry came around this morning with this. It's been in the family for years and (ab)used as a toy (cricket bat  amongst other things). Apparently it was settlement for a gambling debt and then loaned to a relative who kindly painted it red. Neck is V-shaped profile and made from ...
