A great example 👏 of backup playing that is both "fancy yet fits". On a live version on YouTube from the 9/28/21 show by Josh Headley frome Dees's Lounge, with Awesome Eddy Langeon steel & I think it's William on great Tele play'n, they play it twin guitar style. I just assumed the ori...

Thank you, Mike! This is so great! The Rickenbacker sounds like it was made to play on this and the two others you did recently, Graceful Ghost Rag and the Entertainer. I'm really looking forward to an album of this as an entire work. Coincidently, I have been reading the Jerry Byrd biography this w...

Thanks so much everyone! I usually keep my crazy thoughts about lost steel guitars to myself. My Step-Pop was from Houston, and the best Dad you could ever wish for. This guitar reminds me of him so much. His name was Benton Smith, and his record collection was all Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and ...

Dicky Overbey Honky Tonk Memories (Bring it Back)

How is it possible that no one can get this great steel guitar album anymore? It's not fair, I want my Dicky Overbey Honky Tonk Memories with that heavy three string grip riff!

"Notes Anonymous" & Jimmy Day

I heard this funny story that Mike Stern asked Miles Davis on their first gig, how good he did. Miles told Mike to go to "Notes Anonymous". I think we are all guilty of playing too many notes. When I listen to Jimmy Day play a ballad, he never puts in once extra note that isn't needed

Jimmy Day Had Class

Jimmy Day treated a melody with class, no extra notes beyond class and heart, Let it Be Me was so Jimmy Day xo I wish he was still around so he could stop by and tell me all about it, for JD!

Maybe a friend out there on the forum could post his version I can barely remember my password

Great shot of Jerry on steel. I notice he usually played a ZB back in the day but that looks like an Emmons. Maybe that was Buddy Cage's Emmons and Jerry was sitting in? Looks like a Sho-Bud amp behind him. Cool picture!!! Inspires me to get off my rear and join a band when this "Jam-Demic"...

Jimmy Day's version of "Let It Be Me".

The subject matter of the song fits Jimmy's soulful style so perfectly. He set's an incredibly sincere mood with just the softest phrasing and touch on the first few notes with lovely melody from the heart.

A real tissue taker.

This is totally awesome Mike! However, the Billy Butler in me wonders if you have a version without the Rag! LOL, in my case I guess you would have to call it "stairway to honky tonk"
