for any ole thumbpick
These look interesting. Recently I came up with this easy modification to wearing any thumbpick. So here 'tis, in case you're interested. Get some adhesive tape - I use the 1/2" wide cloth kind from the pharmacy. It comes in a convenient sized little plastic covered spool for about 75 cents. I ...

just one thing more...
Glad you found what you were looking for. FYI for those interested - I replaced the stock lipstick pkup in my Morrell 8 string (LRW model) with an 8 string stringmaster replacement pkup from Lollar. It drops right in to the existing hole and the bolt holes line up and everything. A simple replacement.

Ron, I also had severe osteo-arthritis problems, however hand-wise so far it has been limited to my thumbs. Needless to say the bone-on-bone grinding and fingerpicking don't mix well. Last year I had surgery on both thumbs that is called LRTI. There's lots of info about it on the web. So I won't go ...

rack and barrel Mullen
Tempting Chas. very nice.
I've got a rack and barrel D10 Mullen. Mike Mantey told me it was built between '68 and '73. (pre - serial numbers). I could sure use some barrels if you have any spares or know of anyplace to get some.

Thanks for posting this. I had just assumed there was a mix problem. Now I've changed my audio settings and can hear the steel.

at 2:43 in.....
Could someone describe what exactly Joe is doing to get the effect at 2:43 into the song. He steps to the side and turns his right hand, but is still picking back near the pickup. I believe he does this again later in the song as well. Is he just rolling the volume knob with his pinky? or is there m...

Morrell 8 string pup
Anybody replaced the stock lipstick pup on one of these with something else and can comment on the results?
Have been thinking about putting a stringmaster type (8-pole single coil)pup on mine and wondering anybody has done that.

Plated Picks
Elderly Instruments sells fingerpicks from several makers which Elderly has Cobalt plated. I recently tried them and really like the feel and sound. Definitely worth the extra $, less than the cost of a new set of strings and lasting much longer than a set of strings. They slide off the strings very...

I have been using one for only a short time for both steel and 6-string. I've stuck primarily to the delay, compression and EQ to this point. I'm relatively satisfied. The price:performance ratio is reasonable for me. I like the ability to program it using the computer and USB. I agree that it is di...

I agree with Mark that the website does not seem correct in that the Gibson buyout was not as early as '88. I have a '92 model 27 which is definitely pre-Gibson, OMI. In '95 I attended a Dobro workshop in the Denver area at which Cindy Cashdollar and Al Perkins were among the instructors, and Gibson...

Dean, here's an example how these calculators can be useful. I recently used one of these to figure out if the strings I already had on hand could be used to tune my dobro to C6. I wanted to have reasonably balanced string tension across the set. So I compared the gauges I had at the pitch I wanted ...

USB vs. Sound Card Line In
I am considering how to configure a new home recording computer system. I have all kinds of equipment that generate a line out signal. Mixers, amps, what have you. My computer's sound card has a line in input. What advantage is gained by using one of the many USB interface boxes? (or firewire for th...

Thanks to everyone for the replies! To Jim Sliff: my Super 60 effects loop is post EQ, but I don't recognize anything in the schematic as impedance matching at the pwr amp input. I have not been using it in 3 cord mode up to now. The RLC comments were welcome - not a strange language. (Hey, I am an ...

Nashville or Hilton?
I've been playing PSG for only about a year and have some limited funds to expand my PSG gear. Top of my wish list is a Hilton pedal and a Nashville 112, but can only afford one or the other at this time. Which should be first? I presently play my Mullen D10 "VE" (VE= very early, Mike said...

There is a very good website with instructions for electrically shielding noisy single coil pickup guitars. (Strats/Teles) They specifically discuss the pickguard static problem. I have had that problem but haven't yet tried the posted solution. Perhaps you'll want to try some of their tips. www.gui...
