Need church songs done Swing style

Hello,
A local church has invited me to play steel and asked for an instrumental song. I want to swing it on C6. I can only come up with:

Just a closer walk with Thee.

Could yall suggest others that sound good played either western swing or swing style (is there a difference??)??
Thanks.

Dobro or resonator for newbie?

Lookin' at buyin' one.
1. Do any have a scale like my D10? I tried one and the scale is much longer than my steel.
2. Are there any 8 string ones (I want C6 tuning) for under $600 that sound good?
3. What else do I need to know but don't know to ask?
Thanks for the help.

Did Mr. Blanton ever play with a group called
"The Uptowners"? I got a record with a new pair of boots in '70 and the band had one of the best steel players I ever heard.

Back in the early '70s I got a 45 with a pair of boots in San Antonio (Tx) with a super steel player. The band name was The Uptowners I beleive.

Like Peter said, make the diminishes: 1/2 of A pedal(if one of you knees doesn't lower the 5th, 10th by 1/2. If you have this pull use it while pushing A pedal all the way down.) ADD to this the B pedal and lower your E's (knee) and you have a diminish that sounds like the one on C6 with pedal 5,6. ...

Thanks Crowbear, Now the dumb question: how do you get rid on the melody line that is in there? When I play along with them that melody line makes me think my steel sounds bad (more than usual  ) or that someone is stepping on me and that makes me mad.(Too many #%#$@%lead guitar players in my f...

If you want to see if taking off the RKR pull will make that lever easier to push FIRST JUST adjust the rod to where that 7 string is not pulling at all and that should give you the feel of not having that pull. I do this on a D10 all the time on C6 side and just tighten it back up before the song i...

Great post,
Most of the time I drop my bar when one pops while saying something that I shouldn't.
I changed my 4th pedal on C6 to pull 2 and 6 +1/2 which is a way to very closely achieve the E9 stuff until break time when I can change the string on E9.

If you can learn to use 4 picks you can play alot of nice grips on C6 AND E9 that can not be played by raking because you need to skip some strings. In fact, most of the fat color(Jazz)chords on th E9 are played with a 4 pick grip.

IMHO, B6 is easier than C6 because you use the same fret positions in typical keys (C,D,E,A, etc) to make the 1,4,5 chords. i.e. key of D on C6 is 2nd fret, like playing in F# on E9. How often do you play F# on E9? With B6, D is on 3rd fret, like playing in G on E9. Also, if you are playing along on...

Replace fretboard with silkscreen to see wood.

What's the easiest/cheapest way to replace the standard fretboard. My necks have beautiful wood and I want to see it not the metal fretboard. I'm not picky as to if it's replaced with silkscreen or paint.Gordon

You need to go to a steel convention and try'em out. I went to my first convention in Dallas last year and learned so much about all kinds of stuff. My suggestion would be a carter sd10 for a single neck. They are light weight stay in tune, etc. With Lawrence X16 pickup and Emmons SIT strings you ge...

Where to get plastic extension for neck switch

The neck switch on my D10 is small metal and knocks off my pick when switching necks in middle of a song. I've seen that some of you guys have a piece of
plastic or rubber slid over the metal switch which
makes it bigger, longer, and easier to use in a hurry.
Where did you guys get them??
Thanks
