National New Yorker control knob
Hi everyone, I discovered that somewhere along my last move, the control switch on my pre-war National New Yorker lapsteel broke. I would love to replace it so if anyone has any info on where I might find one, please get in touch. It's the white deco looking pickup selector switch. Thanks a million ...

My first and only steel is an EMCI U-12. I am at an beginner/intermediate level of playing I'd say. Most of the learning material I use is for E9 which is easy to adapt for the U12 but I would love to start taking advantage of the B6 side and integrating it to my playing. I think getting the U12 pla...

Thanks to all for the info. There were some great musical moments indeed in the film, and in watching it again I realized that really most of the music footage was indeed shot live, not lip-synced. A very nice touch I think, and something you never see in feature films. Great players. I'm going to t...

Nashville the movie
I just saw Nashville, a great film by Robert Altman from the mid seventies. There was a lot of great players and tunes throughout, and most looked like it was shot live. I was just curious if anyone would know who sitting behind the steel, it looked like the same player more or less throughout the f...

I'm pretty sure that the Blues Brothers scene was shot at the Palomino in North Hollywood. I gigged there once in 1986, they still had the chicken wire up. We also didn't have any country music in our repertoir at that time, and had to pull a few standards out of the hat that night. Noone was injure...

What gives a digital workstation like protools it's sound, as opposed to say an analogue tape recorder, or another digital workstation is how the analogue signal gets converted to a digital one (and vice versa). I think the Pro Tools AD/DA converters are pretty good, but if you really want better so...

I listen to a lot of music, all kinds of music. I listen to and appreciate country music as I do many other genres. It seems that the more great music I hear, the more there is to discover. One thing I have always been a sucker for was the sound of a steel guitar, be it blues, rock, hawaiian, whatev...

I bought my first (and only) steel from Jim a couple of years back. Jim was very accomodating in getting the steel out to me here in Germany, always there to answer the subsequent dumb questions and just generally a great guy to deal with. This is a great thread to publicly offer up my gratitude. It...
