Well I got it--Guess I didn't get the first one hot enough, when I went to pull it out with the pliers, it conveniently broke off pritnear flush with the surface......so out comes the Dremel. Maybe I just got lucky with the second one, but next time try this first: Get out your LITTLE hammer (I usua...

Oh, it's in a slot all right. No idea how deep it is, but as you can see the nut is hemmed in front, back, & sides.

Need help--Replacing nuts on old Supro Comet

Hey all, I've been away for awhile--good to be back. So I've got this old Supro double six, it looks like this one only it's a doubleneck: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1029/4897_imagesCALAMZFF_1.jpg Both of the nuts are broken. Got replacements from Stew-Mac, but I need help removing the ol...

Great Build thread on Harmony Central

For those of you interested in building your own lap, there's a great thread going on over on Harmony Central right now. It's not my thread (I'm not the builder) but I've been watching it. Check it out, I think you'll like it:

Every lap I've ever built has had a volume & tone control and a series/parallel switch (I've got this thing about humbuckers.) Last I heard, though, there ain't no law that says you've got to have a tone control....Since the purpose of a tone control is to cut the treble, you can accomplish the ...

Thanks Gary--Had inquiries, but never sold the "stretcher" unit ala carte; just complete instruments. It's a very labor-intensive component to put together 'cause as you can see, there's a lot of cutting, drilling, & tapping involved. Two bills wouldn't be out of line for the time it t...

I've been using a very simple arrangement of a 1/4" stainless steel rod supported by blocks made of 3/8" aluminum. Got the stock on Ebay. Same design for bridge and nut; nut is slotted but bridge is not. Here's a pic--

I put one on a guitar once; very simple. Just wire the "doorbell" switch (SPST normally open) so that when it's pressed it connects the "hot" output to the ground. Don't wire it so it intermittently breaks the hot connection unless you want a staticky, noisy sound.

The nut is grooved but the bridge isn't. Using a string-through design (like a Telecaster), there's enough down pressure at the bridge so the strings stay put.

I use a real simple arrangement consisting of a 1/4" stainless steel rod with ends made of 3/8" aluminum for both the nut and bridge. Lesse if I can post a pic:
