One of my favorite Nashville based singer/songwriters is Jon Randall, who first came to prominence in the '90s as a member of Emmylou's Nash Ramblers band. Check out the brilliant playing by Rob Ickes on this number, In the Country: https://youtu.be/uNNAfPCeg8Q?si=oEeVb2ncr31WU5qm Speaking of Jon Ra...

Though I have never been a big fan of the stock Regal Black Lightning, the guitar is light years better than a $200 reso from Aliexpress. And it is a pretty respectable imported reso guitar - a lot of this is likely due to the fact that for many years it came equipped with a Quarterman cone. I'm not...

Rich, that was a great Mack the Knife! Sorry to hear about the wrist, but in slowing down a bit in recovery along with your rethinking maybe it helped you to keep sight of the melody since it is so recognizable to millions of people.

Robert, no idea what Bob Allen is charging for the guitar with benders as mentioned by Michael, but before I even got to the part in your original post where you mentioned Asher, the Electro-Hawaiian Jr. popped into my head. I had one (stolen from the trunk of my car in a break-in five years ago) an...

Just one - a circa 1933 Model 37 squareneck Dobro. I’ve had that guitar since 1976.

The instrument I have owned the longest is a 1962 Supro that I got new as a 10 year old lap steel student in 1964.

Now if only we could get an event on the west coast. I realize the odds are against it, the only House of God Church I'm aware of out here is in Los Angeles, about 450 miles south of my place - but I would make the trip!

The Gold Tone Beard models come with a Beard cone and spider bridge and the way to tell what size they are, they use L and R bodies-the L bodies are dreadnaught sizes, while the R bodies are smaller than the dreadnaught sized dobros. Whoa - time out! The Gold Tone/Beard squareneck resonators are al...

Your preference is solid mahogany - you might be able to find one on the used market from any number of builders somewhere near your price range, but first you should check out Appalachian. Hey Brooks, I have yet to come across anyone who had a JD Aura pedal fail that was able to go out to the workbench in their garage and figure out how to get it up and running again. What often happens in these seeking advice regarding gear threads is the OP neglects to state a budget. Resophonic guitars aren’t unlike flattop acoustic guitars in terms of price - you can find something for a few hundred bucks and from there it goes into thousands. For a first timer it’s good to g...

I know that the DoubleShot will add just under an inch to the height of the guitar. So this is why there have been custom cases made available over the past several years. One of the few players I know who doesn’t have a palm rest on his main guitar (Tim-built Scheerhorn) is Greg Booth. Phosphor bronze vs. 80/20 comes down to personal preference, how it sounds to your ear. I generally go with phosphor bronze on any lap style acoustic though I'm mainly referring to dobro. I think your string gauges are too light for Open D. Especially the .012 first string. I believe you would be di...
