First timer song post: Another Day, Another Dollar

I've been reading and listening here in the forum for a long time, and have learned so much - but never really joined the conversations. So I decided it was time to hop in and share a tune. Here's a version of Wynn Stewart's Another Day, Another Dollar that I recorded with/for the band I used to pla...

One of my staff recently found this gem of a Dual Pro during some barn picking in central Oregon, the boxcars need rewinding but otherwise it's in pretty good condition except for a missing metal tuning button on one tuner. The shaft & gear work fine, so the challenge is finding a similar metal ...

For what it's worth (2 cents, more or less), I recommend choosing one tuning and sticking with it, at least for a while until you get comfortable with it. You'll slowly but surely get used to where to find notes, chord shapes and patterns. Then once you gain some level of familiarity and comfort, st...

I'll offer another vote for the Protec case at Cases & More that Ambrose mentioned & linked above, plenty of room for my various lap steels. I liked 'em so much that I bought three! Straps for wearing it backpack style or as a standard case, lots of pocket space etc.

Looks great, and a good value. I wonder if you'd consider having the bridge and saddle changed to a non-compensated saddle?

Re: 1930's Oahu

I trying to find a 1930/1940 Oahu. All the ones I've seen have tuner issues. Is there a direct replacement for the 3-on-a-side tuners? Stewmac part #? And the wooden pickup cover, how are these removed from the guitar? Any issues to be aware of when buying one of these lap steels? The front pickup ...

I have a black Vega of similar vintage and style, and love it. Clean, clear 'traditional' tone. I also like that it has wider string spacing than my Supros, very comfortable to play. I'm no expert on what it's worth, but I think the $300 to $400 range would be fair.

I'm a little surprised that no one has tried a Highlander. I love the warmth of their iP-1 in my old wooden body squareneck, and upgrading to the iP-2 gives you the option of adding a 2nd transducer or internal condensor to the mix. I'd imagine that this would be an ideal candidate for installation ...

Scale length also affects string tension relative to particular tunings, which also has a lot to do with tone and harmonics. In terms of the relationship between string tension and tone, I don't think it matters per se whether one uses frets or a bar. This from another guitarist: "String tensio...

Mark, I have a Vega that's nearly a twin of yours. Mine has a serial number (46124) clearly stamped & paint accented into the top edge of the headstock. This leads me to believe that mine's a '46, but I have no way of knowing if Vega used a numbering sequence that references the production year ...

No compensation works best for me. I think that the need is more apparent in the higher registers. A straight saddle makes the most sense for any steel, in my opinion. If the bridge compensates, at some point the player will also have to do the same. I think that maybe the more important issue is ge...

If tightening the nuts below the pickup plate as Rick describes doesn't help, it could be the pickup bobbin losing its integrity that's causing the buzz. These degrade over time, especially if the original trap pickups haven't been rebuilt. Jason Lollar does rebuilds and can install a new bobbin in ...

Interestingly, while practicing blocking & damping, I find it preferable to go 'au natural' too. I use a thumb pick only, and prefer bare fingers for the rest. As a beginner, this may be a lazy or dangerous habit, but I've always preferred that approach to fingerpicking on standar/spanish guitar...
