I found out today that I will be able to get the time off to attend the TSGA Jamboree in Irving, TX this weekend.

Is there a consignment room at the Jamboree where attendees can sell their steel guitars?

Thanks for all the information about BIAB. I ordered from Jim Baron. I'm looking forward to playing with the software. At least my computer will be able to play music.

Do any of you use Band-in-a-Box to practice and learn songs with? Is there much in the way of music for BIAB that helps entry level steeler wanabees?

Would there be a problem if I used the C6th guages and tuned to G for bluegrass dobro?

The Oahu is a lap steel. It does have a square neck but being 60-70 years old I'm not sure it would take a G tuning.

So, if I tuned it to Amaj, could I just move tab for the Dobro G up two frets?

Yes, Nancy and I lived in San Jose for years. We now live in Livingston TX. I bought Nancy a dobro at Scotty's International Steel Convention this year which has the G tuning. I have an old 6 string Oahu acoustic. Because of its age I have not tuned it above a C6th. So I'm looking for bluegrass less...

I'm looking for Bluegrass beginner lessons for the 6 string lap steel. Any suggestions of where I might find some?

I was fortunate to see Alvino and Luise King perform at Scotty's International Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis. I believe it was '88 or '89. As I recall he sat on a stack of chairs. They had some equipment problems but finally got the act off. It was great seeing live those two legends.

Thanks for the welcome and all the information. I'll keep my eye open for an old Oahu squareneck on Ebay. Checking eBay I find some acoustic guitars for .01 cent with $40.00 shipping. Wonder how long they'ed hold together. Would like to keep the investment low until I know that acoustic steeling is ...

Were any of the old lap steels acoustic? I'm looking for something I can play without amplification.
