The ultralinear amps got a bad rap, I guess compared to the twin reverb's of the 1960's and early 1970's. I don't understand why, unless it's the pull boost circuit that creates an ungodly distortion. I had Skip Simmons remove the circuit from my amp and I like the sound of it a lot. I have mine in ...

Hi Raybob, good to see you here. I had a 64 Bandmaster amp and a 63 or 64 stand alone Fender Reverb unit. With the Sho-Bud Maverick that I sold you, that was some of the best tone I ever got in a psg setup. Alas, as the venues got bigger it was not enough headroom to play cleanly. I'm reading all th...

I'm not ruling out the Tonemaster Twin; I haven't tried it, yet.
I'm thinking of something with tubes-in my experience this would be the way to go (tube snob).

I should add that I'm not neccesarily looking for an as powerful equivalent of the twin reverb, just an amp that has that blackface/silverface sound.

low weight/modern equivalent of bf/sf twin reverb?

I may be asking for the impossible here... I have a silverface 70's twin reverb in a head cabinet with two 15" speakers in separate cabinets. This worked for me weight-wise for many years. Now the head cabinet is too much for me to haul around. So I'm wondering if there's anything out there tha...

Peterson strobostomp hd question

I programmed my presets via Peterson Connect. As many E9th players do, I have three different offsets for C#. I named these C#p (for pedal 1 B-C#), C#4 (for pedal C, B-C#), and C#4 (for RKR, D#-C#). Did I name these wrong? Once I'm tuning, how does the tuner know which is the correct offset for the ...

She's very cute, b0b. I hope you continue to find such happiness in your retirement.
This forum has been such a helpful resource to me and without it I might have given up on steel playing.
Thank you for all you've done here, I hope the standards you've set forth continue on.

And now I find out I can't measure the offsets with it. I want to program a sweetener specific to my psg and I need to measure the offsets. I don't have a smartphone, so I can't use the PitchLabPro app to do this. I do have a Boss TU-12H that will show the offsets in hertz numbers, so I guess I coul...

the one that lit a fire in my soul

Tom Brumley playing Neosho Waltz on the Buckaroo's album America's Most Wanted Band. That really got to me. That was in 1972. It took me two years of working and saving to get the first steel-a wood necked Sho-Bud Maverick, but worth it and I am still a fan of Tom's steel guitar playing.

Should I try taking the pull rod to a machine shop and have them make me a new one? I realize it's a small job comparatively speaking; I guess all they can say is no or I have to have them make up 90 of 'em to make it worth their while...Any suggestions are welcome.

pull rod needed for older ZumSteel

I was changing strings on the C neck and pumping pedal 8 (standard C6th setup) while bringing the C string (7th string) up to pitch and something went click. The pedal rod had snapped in two where the pin that holds the rod in the bell crank intersects the bell crank. The rod measures 11 1/4". ...

What is your favorite steel guitar amp, past and/or present?

I'm partial to Fender tube amps. My first steel amp was a 1964 blonde bandmaster with a Fender tube reverb unit (1963-1964) which I used for practice and some gigs until I realized it wasn't powerful enough for what I needed at the time. I used a silverface super reverb with two of the speakers work...

Charlie, no offense taken. I realize my electronics skills are basic and I've probably done all I can do with what I've got. I checked the pot nuts for tightness and they're all fine. I used contact cleaner on the tubes by spraying the pins and then inserting and re inserting them a few times into t...

Tony, I'm going to do those basic maintenance things you mentioned. The tone stack seems out of whack; I've got the controls set at treble (1), middle (10) and bass (10). This is with a Jackson Maverick HD (single coil pickup). I used to play my Zum D-10 through it and the treble was (4), middle (1)...

I hadn't thought about trying that...
