Near the Cross on my Rickenbacher B6 (postwar) -video-

Aloha Sebastian, As others are saying this hymn has a special meaning to me also and your playing the hymn on your Rickenbacher was so nahe nahe - soft and sensitive. Mahalo nui. I met you some years back in Hawaii. I owned the same Rickenbacher S-6 and sold it to a young Hawaiian lady who is a stud...

John Ely has a great Hawaiian touch to his steel guitar playing. John has a great ear for music and because of his living in Hawaii for a time, he was able to both hear and master the Hawaiian sound. Great to hear John play.

As Mike says use a metronome or a rhythm track because of the importance of timing.

I used Band-in-a-Box (BIAB) produced by PG Music for practicing and for tape production. You can choose the instruments for your backup. It has a lot of flexibility.

Jean-Sebastien, it sounds so nahenahe because you are sliding your bar slowly to the frets and getting that good Hawaiian sound. Mastering this will take you a long way in playing Hawaiian music.

The quickest way to learn the smooth Hawaiian sound would be to take some lessons from Alan Akaka, the Master Kumu (teacher).

His website is: www.KeKulaMele.com

You can tell Alan, I referred you.
