Is Bobby DeMoss still playing in the KC area? If so, hopefully he could attend whatever steel gathering results from this thread. Great player, great guy.
Same goes for Russ Wever, who resides in KC when he's not traveling.

The show would have been from four or so years ago. Gene's last two CD's--the recent Then and Now, and 2003's Gene Watson ....Sings--find Sonny on steel. The two before that--Way to Survive ('97) and From the Heart ('01) do indeed feature Buddy. Music the way it should be on all four of these. <font...

Kudos to all who are in the Hall of Fame (although the Santo and Johnny thing was a bit of a stretch). Kudos to Sonny Garrish for his many achievements, and (so I'm told) the fact that he is as nice and as professional a person with whom one could work. Few, if any steel players have played on as ma...

This is indeed some terrific music! I was fortunate to obtain a copy a few weeks back and have lost track of how many times I've played it. I agree with Steve on the stellar playing by Gregg and John Hughey, and would like to add that David Smith does a knockout job on upright.

Kudos to Gene and Ray Pennington for giving Gregg some much deserved latitude on this mighty fine CD. Like Larry, I was initally fooled by the steel emulation on "Ain't No Trash In My Trailer." I also think Gregg's solo on "I Never Go Around Mirrors" is a classic, and the stacked...

This was indeed co-written by Austin and Lance. Hats off to both these guys for a mighty fine country tune, and here's hoping this one makes it to the masses.

I heard a version of this (killer) song on a demo by a guy named Lance Miller. I was under the impression that Lance had written it. He sure sang the hell out of it at any rate! Mighty fine singer/songwriter and he'll be performing at Fred's Dance Hall in Carbondale, Illinois this Saturday, August 1...

Is there anyone in Nashville who can "stack" guitar solos (and/or fills) better than Gregg? I think not.

Merle Haggard has been emulated vocally by many and duplicated by none. His natural inflections, tone, and pitch (and his Frizzel influenced style) have found him a cut above most country singers for over 30 years. After seeing and hearing his Vegas concert on TNN a few times it seems that he's &quo...

These may not be the greatest releases of '99 but they deserve mention. 1. "Johnny Paycheck Live at Gilley's" This was recorded in 1985 two months before Paycheck shot someone in a Ohio bar and while he sounds a bit rugged his style is intact. And Jim Murphy plays his a** off in the 20 cut...

When a country entertainer sets up shop in Branson he/she is pretty much assured that there will be no country airplay involved with this particular career move. In the mid-80's Roy Clark and a few others opened theaters in Branson and the "boom" began. In the last 15 years I can't think o...

Two songs that come to mind are "I'm Tired" by Webb Pierce (Ricky Skaggs also did a great version of this with Terry Crisp on steel) and "You're Still on my Mind" by Johnny Payckeck.
[This message was edited by Fred Ermentrout...
