You are in my thoughts and prayers

I've known Buddy for about five and a half years now. In March of this year, I took my twenty-fifth steel lesson from him. When I travel to Orange, VA from my home (east of Richmond, VA) I take 2-hour lessons. They always fly by so fast and I always leave feeling more confident and really pumped up....

Pedal/lever designations

I am a member posting this on behalf of a new steerl player. I've recommended that he JOIN this forum, but that I'd post this for him. Thanks, David Fred's question: I do have a technical question though, Given the fact that I have two knee levers, Can you tell me how they are referred to? THe lever...

Dealing with nervous energy and keeping it fun

Hello fellow steelers. I've been playing in bands nearly all my life. I've been playing steel in bands for about four years now. Our band is playing this Friday and Saturday night (different clubs). I'm usually fine once we've started the first set and have gotten a few songs under our belts. My que...

Thank you...

Thanks for the information and feedback. Like they say, there are no new ideas under the sun, I guess. I just had never read anything about this subject, so it's nice to know it's been (being) talked about. I understand that there's probabaly no huge demand for this type of steel now. Maybe some day...

New generation pedal steel guitar?

I wasn't sure whether to post this commentary in the electronics section or the humor section, so here goes! You know that everything evolves from something into something eventually, right? For a long time I "invented" and dreamed about a self tuning guitar and in the last couple of years...

Changing strings

I'm a fairly seasoned pedal steel and 6-string guitarist, but I still struggle when it comes to changing the first couple of strings on the E9th neck, especially the G#! The way I normally change them is to place the ball end of the string over the roller piece of the bridge and while keeping tensio...

Thank you for your comments

I appreciate all the sound advice and comments. My teacher is Buddy C. He tends to keep his little finger out and has sort of encouraged that in me. It's feeling a little easier (and more natural) each time I practice. I am able to block/mute a little easier now. My next lesson with him will be numb...

Right-hand finger, in or out?

I'm sure this has been discussed in some thread before. When playing, do you typically extend the little finger on your right hand or curl it under? I've seen it done both ways and I'm trying to go with extending it like my PSG teacher does. I think it may make blocking easier too, correct? It's bee...

What the heck is that thing?

Many people have heard the pedal steel guitar, but there are many who don't really know much about it. I was at a club on Saturday night checking out a band that would like to hire a steel player (perhaps me?!). Anyway, the band leader guy I'd been contacted by asked me about the steel. Assuming he ...

Congrats on your first gig! I've played three so far. The last one was back in May at a little country bar. I got some nice compliments and the band I was sitting in with seemed to like what I was doing. I haven't been asked back, but that doesn't mean that I didn't do well. Nerves are all part of i...

When I'm asleep, that's when I get peace from my ringing. Usually, I just live with it. Some days it's worse than others. On the really bad days, I just tell myself that it's been that way before and it will quiet down some later. White noise helps like a fan or something like that in the background...

Again, I want to thank everyone for their insight and comments. Wow, so many products from which to choose! I have done a lot of research since I first posted this thread. I have learned that if you're going to use the Mbox 2 or Digi 002 from Digidesign, you MUST spec out the hardware and make sure ...

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their comments. The Forum clearly has a lot of informed readers! Tore - Most of the negative comments I've read about the Mbox pertain to compatibility issues between the software and the workstation/pc. I think folks have to keep in mind that when you purch...

Pro Tools, Cubase, Cakewalk??????

I have read and read and read reviews (plus input from my friends) and I'm struggling to decide which recording package to go with. Everyone has an opinion and has his or her own preference. I thought the DigiDesign Mbox 2 with Pro Tools LE was the way to go, but after some of the negative reviews i...

Goodrich Model 7A Super Sustain box

Do any of you steelers use one of these? I recently purchased one and use it on my GFI Ultra D-10. Honestly, I can't really tell if it's doing all that much to add sustain or not. If it is, it's marginal. I also have/play a Carter SD-10. It has natural sustain that blows my GFI away, even when using...

I would like to add a few words as well. He is everything you say he is. I have been a student of his for nearly two years now. It is like having a personal trainer on pedal steel. He has taught me so much about playing, style, technique, and tone. If I may brag, go out to Billy Cooper's Music at: h...

Welcome. Let me ask you, do you wake up every morning and think about your steel? Is it setup where you can see it when you walk around your house? While at work do you think about getting home to play? Do you believe that the PSG is the greatest instrument there is? If so, you may have a PSG addict...

Remember when it was fun?

Okay, I need a good stiff kick in the pants from all you seasoned steel players. I practice 6 out of 7 days a week and give myself one night off a week just for good measure. I take a two hour lesson about every month or so from one of my PSG heroes, Buddy Charleton. During my daily practices, I pla...

Tommy is an incredible PSG player. He is also an excellent Dobro and 6-string guitar player. I've had the pleasure of knowing him for many years. His music and playing has inspired me on many musical levels.
