I have the Behringer Shark DSP110 it works a bit, it is really designed to work with mics. It is really bad as far as signal loss when run in line mode which bypasses the builtin mic preamp. The Shark is a cheapo copy of the small sabine SL-820 which it tries to look like but, they don't operate sim...

Here's a link to the failed MIDI Violin pickup project http://www.fiddleforum.com/fiddleforum/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=1176;start=0 There I think to reasons for the failure 1) Magnetic pickups don't work on Violins (the motion of a fiddle string is rotational compared to a pluck str...

I like that rig for the keyboard very good Idea my 61 key would hide the lap steel though http://steelguitarforum.com/biggrin.gif You are right MIDI is great for keyboards or at least better then it is for guitars or steel guitars. It seems to work well enough for tapped guitars like the Stick but, ...

I would think twice (or more) before going down this road. I have owned several MIDI guitar systems for regular electric guitar and in the end I dumped all of it in favor of DSP effects (much better). I also tried to find ways to use portions of this equiptment with electric violin including buildin...

Another Possibility is the JBL EON systems (particularly the EON 15 G2 powered speaker)I have heard these used in multiple applications (Electric Guitarist, Keyboard, Fiddle but not steel yet)and they are absolutely dead flat response with no coloration or distortion. They're so clean you might have...

I have a (Fender Owned) SWR Strawberry Blonde it's real nice the weight isn't too bad and I like the cab style 80 watts. If you want more power more features (and weight) then a California Blonde is a great choice. I bought the Strawb after seeing a Calif. Blonde in action for me I didn't require th...

Yeah there has been a bunch of MIDI enabled stuff around for a while. The newer stuff just has more extensive support for more parameters that can be controlled by MIDI. You see all the talk about the POD XT from Line six these are very good too. My preference is towards Boss/Roland and TC Electroni...

Hmm re-reading your post you do have a tall order here the Automatic switching between multiple guitars and power amps adds a bit of complexity. It would almost require two controllable mixer (MIDI) fairly expensive. There are a number of amps out there now that can be contolled by MIDI Fender Cyber...

Well since you are moving into Rack Effect land did you buy rack effects that are MIDI controllable? If you did or are considering Rack based effect you will find that many of them are MIDI enabled. Heres one for you to look at http://www.voodoolab.com/gcsystem.html I have an older version of there ...

Yeah the DJ Shuttle has the rails on a diagonal on the top and has the front face available for use too. Here's a pic some of the stuff in the pic is gone and the unit has basically been simplified. http://www.akroeger.com/violins/allrack.jpg The pic does give you a better idea of the shape of a shu...

Thanks Den yeah I been reading this forum for a while now (before fiddle I did some 35 years on guitar next to nothing on steel) So, I finally took the plunge with Lap Steel as preliminary to a Pedal in the future and am enjoying it a bunch (lots to learn but, plenty of pre-existing musical knowlege...

I like SKB racks best but, there are other brands utilizing similar construction. I have an SKB DJ Shuttle right now so I look down toward the floor and see what the current settings are. Power conditioners can be handy to keep the power wiring neat and orderly and protect the Rack gear from bad hou...

Perhaps Den doesn't want to get involved in the PC based systems. You could try out the Korg Electribe Series some of them are cheap second hand but, I kinda doubt you will like any of the builtin patterns modification/editing will be required. Why don't you ask our mutual aquaintence Mark 'madfiddl...
