When would this happen? Would definitely be interested and can bring some musicians from LA, maybe enough for a live backing band.

Finally! When I had a chance to speak with Shooter a few years ago, I naturally asked him if he knew about his father's main man, Ralph Mooney. Then I kindly suggested that Shooter incorporate a pedal steel guitar into the band, and he said one of the regular guitar players in the band was starting ...

Neil is one of those steel players who can just melt everything together so well. His skills are evident on the Gram Parsons & Fallen Angels live album from 1973 in Hempstead, NY. Here's a link to the album on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Live-1973-Parsons-Fallen-Angels/dp/B0000033ZC Even the b...

Mike Wheeler - Thanks for the constructive criticsm. This was honestly the first time I played in over a year so it would be an understatement to say that I was unprepared, especially when also serving as the cameraman and the steel player within the same two-minute video. My main purpose was to dis...

Thanks for posting this. I love Neil Flanz's sound and style with Gram Parsons. It's some of the best pedal steel that was ever played, in my opinion. Also got to see Emmy in Central Park this summer when she played with and before Levon Helm. Emmylou still sounds as sweet and angelic as she ever di...

New pedal steel video on YouTube

Hello forumites, I decided to dust off the ol' pedal steel today and record a video of some random improv melodies. As always, I value every member's feedback so please do not hold back. Thanks!

This is such sad news. I'm 26 years old from Connecticut, and most people wonder how and why I got into the pedal steel guitar. My answer is simple: Ralph Mooney. Ralph Mooney produced the best melodies in the history of music, and the best part was how he always made it look so damn easy (even if h...

Bill Hatcher - What bands or musicians do you like? James Allison - Voicing your difference in opinion is not a bad thing at all. My only question is why do you spend your time reading threads about things you hate? To all the positive folks out there, check these two shows from the great year of 19...

This is where my favorite two topics meet - Pedal Steel Guitar and Jerry Garcia. I've been doing a lot of personal research on these subjects throughout the years and I've come up with this: The one thing that made Jerry such a great musician was his superb ability to create and produce melodies. He...

Teach the old style and you'll get some converts. Probably not many, but you will get some converts. But if you want to reach a lot of young people, start exposing them to folks like Robert Randolph. They'll eventually work their way back to the old stuff and there will be a hell of a lot more of t...

Bi-amping Peavey Session 500 with Fender Twin Reverb

I've been playing my Emmons S-10 through a Peavey Session 500 for the last 10 years but I recently picked up a sweet-sounding Fender Twin Reverb and I'm thinking about possibly trying to bi-amp these: Session 500 for low frequencies, Fender Twin for high frequencies. Has anyone tried anything like t...

Clayton, glad to hear there's another young steeler in the world. I'm 23 and started about four years ago. I had listened to Ralph Mooney way too much and just had to try it for myself. question about customizing

I hope that this question will not get me deported from the forum... (just for the record, I do own and play an Emmons p/p) I am trying to drill/route a new slot for a third pickup on a telecaster body. I know I will need a pickup template in order to drill it to the proper size but I am unsure what...
