Message From Cathe To Rick's Dear Friends

Dear Friends of Rick, I want to try to put my own grief aside and try to stop crying long enough to thank you all so much for everything. The outpouring of love, flowers, cards, has been overwhelming. There are really not enough words to express how I feel at this time, but as time goes on, I hope t...

The tweed Blues Junior is a great little amp. We brought one to the TSGA Non Pedal Session last March thinking it would be for guitar, and Kev Brown plugged the National T-8 console steel into it. It sounded terrific, and that's the rig he played for most of his selections. Here's one: BELGRAVE BOUN...

The Rickenbacker DW 16 is a real nice guitar. I have a blonde one, and it's a sweetheart.
Gary Brandin (SpongeBob, Blue Hawaiians, Vanduras) plays one, and he loves it.
You don't see this model of Rickenbacker for sale very often . .

Al, that looks about right.
Bar size is a matter of personal preference, a standard Hawaiian bar is usually 3/4" by 2 7/8" (app).
Just keep at it, you'll be fine.

Thanks Tom! Here's another one: http://get.mystagemusic.com/_SETTLING-DOWN/video/643910/26146.html These videos are worth watching just for the passers-by and the various antics on the beach and Boardwalk. Actually, on Hollywood Beach it's now called "The Broadwalk" for some reason. I know...

Jim, the "single neck Stringmaster" was actually called a Fender Deluxe by Fender.
Fender only made short scale (22 1/2") Deluxes.

Of course, there are single necks that have been separated from multi-necks and had sockets and legs added.

Thanks Theo! A long time ago I tried a few karaoke tracks and tracks done by others, but they just weren't right for me. So I always record all my own backups tracks. It takes anywhere from a few hours to several days to do one, depending on how intricate it is. Maybe many people don't know the diff...

I see Mr Boards posted a couple of minutes before I did.
His videos on bar control are excellent!
You should definitely check them out.
And Basil's videos should be very valuable to you as well.

You have come to the right place my friend . .

Thank you for the kind words David and Don! Al, a bullet bar seems "uncooperative" at first and it may feel like you're going to drop it or just not be able to manage it. But with practice it becomes a faithful friend. Hold it with your thumb and second finger while using your forefinger a...

I remember when I bought my first lap steel - a Fender Champion. I paid $50 for it in a vintage guitar store, back in 1981. There wasn't much demand for them back then, the guy just wanted it out of the store. Now Vintage Guitar Guide says it's worth $850, and that's probably about right. I still ha...

That was a great plug for LAP STEEL GUITAR. Ben said it and Dave repeated it. There could be 10,000 kids out there who now know what a lap steel is from that one performance. There are no rules, no limits - only limitless possibilities. These days I'd rather listen to Jerry Byrd or Herb Remington to...

Richard, that's very true. I've been collecting these things for a while myself. You have to take Vintage Guitar Price Guide prices with a grain of salt - it ain't the bible. A vintage steel is essentially worth what someone will pay for it. And to say that a certain vintage guitar is worth $X is al...

I just talked to Carco Clave today, and he'll be back for the 2010 Non Pedal Session along with the lovely and talented Renae' Truex on fiddle and Scott Icenogle on upright bass. He's currently on tour with BR549, and he has in...

Lap Steel on Craig Ferguson

I just watched redheaded hottie Jenny Lewis romp through a spirited ditty called "See Fernando" (from her album "Acid Tongue") on the Craig Ferguson show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPi6-cuMODo Her band consisted of bass, drums, acoustic guitar and lap steel, though a look at...

Dave,
Don's main tuning is this E6 - hi2lo G# E C# B G# E C# A
and his second tuning is B11 - hi2lo E C# A F# D# B A F#
These would be the best tunings to use.
