I've fixed that physical him by unbolting the bell ends of the transformer and putting some insulating fiber sheet("fish paper") where the bell bolts down. Might be worth a try - very cheap fix.

I think you'll want a stereo 1/4" cable to have a home made one work right. Ignore the tip and test between the ring and the ground.

After struggling with C6 CEGACE for a number of years, I moved to the EBDGBD tuning that Tom listed.
I also started experimenting with EGBDGBDE on 8 string so I can easily reach the blues trope of GB_E on the top three strings.
It's just easier for my aging blues infused and dobro addled brain.

Late to the discussion. Sorry. I would say avoid the Gstyle as they seem pretty random. I bought one off Amazon and though it sounds great, the nut was wrong (too low and not grooved deep enough) and the placement was off. For $99 at the time it was a great knock around, but I had to make a new nut ...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_power Using "watts" to figure out how loud an amp sounds is tricky, in large part because the manufacturers' usage of the word "watt" is loosely defined. In some cases they have outright lied, as in the Crate power block of years past. You al...

I think you might want to be an octave down from these frequencies. Just divide all the numbers on the right by two.

I tried to come up with a way to use what I already know on armpit guitar and minimize the "getting lost" factor. 6 string Dobro tuning but drop the low string to E for both lap and Dobro. D B G D B E I am experimenting with an 8 string tuning with the same idea: Dobro tuning for lap but p...

Peavey Power slide into vintage SD-1 and a non fresh battery. I found a sweet spot backing off the volume and messing with the tone/blend knob.
Also a voodoo labs tremolo is nice for occasional use.
The old zoom 505 has a pretty weird sounding ring modulator.

I had a Frontman FM212 100w 2x12 a while ago. Very similar circuit and sound. I measured the low end response. It seemed to drop off rapidly around 100 hz. The main design difference was a very weird muting circuit (to prevent overload, I guess.) I couldn't get it to work right so I disabled it. Che...

You say "buzzing power transformer and audio noise that I just can't get rid of". It might be filter capacitors. Check the filter capacitors first because if they are bad they can burn out the transformer very quickly. Also just to be sure (rare issue) check the rectifier tube for shorts. ...

The changer looks like a raise/lower a la Harlin Brothers. There was a local brand in Seattle from that era with a name something like "Chord Guitar" but it had only the raise changer not the lower. I had one for a short time.

This fellow is asking about them.
I solved a previous mystery brand for him and it would be great if someone has any info. His website is a great reference on all things guitar brand related.

Nope. You get better readings when disconnected.
Matter of fact, never try to check ohms on a powered up circuit. Best case the ohm meter will get confused, worst case it will blow it out.

Sounds like it's working right. The ohm readings measured this way should always read a bit lower than the rating.
