Thanks for the replies. Carl, yes, the song sounds like one that Merle could have written. Peter, thanks for finding the session info. Danny, I agree. I have heard of a "fingered" dobro which is is fretted like a regular guitar instead of with a dobro bar. Maybe that was the instrument pla...

The Browns - I'm A Lonesome Fugitive

Does anyone know who played on this? It sounds like it has dobro and pedal steel.

Thanks.

Thanks Danny and Ricky.

The steel guitars in the first verse and second verse have different sounds and styles. Are the steel guitar fills in the second verse played by Pete Drake or a different player? Was it played on a different steel guitar?

Gary Stewart's I See the Want To In Your Eyes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09zorXQpfRo There definitely is pedal steel on the fills during the second verse. I was wondering about the intro and first verse. What is the instrument playing from 0:00-0:03 and 0:06-0:08? The 2 sections from 0:03-0:06 and 0:08-0:11 sound like the E9th A pedal bein...

Thanks for the replies. I did a few web searches and found that Jeannie C. Riley's Harper Valley PTA has fretted dobro played by Jerry Kennedy. Also, Merle Haggard's Mama Tried has dobro played by James Burton on the first half of the intro and outro. Does anyone know if it was fretted dobro or a re...

What's the instrument? Bobby Austin - Ten Years Ago

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkauxT2dppY At 1:09 what's the instrument taking a solo? It sounds like a dobro but a little different. I've heard of a fretted dobro; is that what this is? I've heard this sound on 1960s Merle Haggard records too. Any idea who played it? According to the picture it's...

Thanks Steve. Highway 101 has a Christmas album and Blue Christmas is on it, so maybe that's it. I searched Google and came up with another possibility. Wikipedia's article on Patsy Cline says Jamey Ryan provided vocals for Blue Christmas in the the movie Sweet Dreams. I don't have access to either ...

Blue Christmas by female vocalist, who is the steeler?

Tonight the local radio station played a version of Blue Christmas sung by a woman but they did not state her name. The recording did not sound country, yet in the middle there was a prominent, almost in-your-face steel guitar solo that to me sounded like 1960s or 1970s country. If anybody has heard...

A great song and a great recording, with tasteful steel, fiddle, piano and guitar fills. Anyone know who the producer, musicians and background singers are? Thanks in advance.
