I said I would report back on the guitar that started this thread, so here it is. First of all I am not the worlds leading authority on steel guitars nor am I one of the top players on the planet. I have however been playing multiple string instruments for 30+ years and I operate a guitar repair sho...

I bought a VCR/DVD recorder (Emerson) from Wallmart. Not very expensive. Easy dubbing from tape to disc. It works well, everything I've recorded will play on all the other DVD players I've tried including my PC. The only issue I've had so far is it's a bit picky about the discs you use to record to....

At $750 for a complete D10 I'm allready a happy camper. Do I expect it to stack up to my Carter? NO, but it cost considerably more. After reading this thread, Don contacted me and offered to give my money back. I'm still buying the guitar. I run a guitar repair shop so I've either got a hell of a bu...

I just bought it. I'll let you know how it goes. Actually, I bought it for parts, the legs, endplates, necks, changers, etc are worth more than I paid for the guitar. Maybe i've been lucky, but I've dealt with Don a couple times in the past with no problems.

Earlier this year I was in the same situation. I knew I wanted to learn steel so I sprung for a new Carter D10. A pretty sizable chunk of change, but the guitar is fabulous and will last me a lifetime. I've never regretted it.

I,ve played guitar and banjo for several years and run a guitar repair shop and build electric and acoustic guitars. A few years ago my wife bought me a 6 string lap steel for christmas. I dinked around with it for a while (with little success) then stuck it in the closet. A year or so later I wacke...

Just turned 50, switched to dobro and lap steel from guitar, banjo and mandolin a couple years ago after a breif encounter with a table saw blade. Got my pedal monster a couple months ago. Now I'm hopelessly addicted.

Central Indiana steel instructor?

Anyone have any leads on a pedal steel teacher in central Indiana. I'm in the Lafayette area. I know a lot of people in the music community, but it seems that very few even know what a pedal steel is. From all the advise on this forum it sound like personal lessons would be a jump start. I'm beginni...

From what I can tell from the pictures, It looks like one I just took in trade. If it is, it,s a crude student model. $400 would be a bit steep in my opinion.

I use a bicycle seat throne. It works for me. I'm just learning, so I spent a lot of hours on it. Like someone said earlier, be sure to try out different models, they are all different. Mine is made by "Pulse"

I agree with Doc. The folks at carter are great to deal with. My D-10 arrived a month ahead of schedule. As a beginner, I don't have anything to compare it to but I'm extreamly pleased with the "feel" of it. I just wish it didn't make such strange sounds at times. Well, I suppose that coul...
