It was another excellent show, and I'd like to add my thanks to Craig & Sue, Michael & Lynette and Mark, the superb House Band, plus all the others who worked to put on another great "Udder Jam." The featured performers put on excellent shows, and the individual players gave us ins...

My thanks and respect to the NEISG organizers and performers. As usual, a first-rate show with really great people and excellent musical performances.

I sort of look forward to these shows like I would to a yearly reunion with the best darn family a person could wish for!

Movie "Sing Your Worries Away"

There's a movie by this name on TCM this afternoon, and it features Alvino Rey's Orchestra, circa 1941.

It's sort of a comedy, with Bert Lahr and Buddy Ebsen. Might be worth any steel guitar fan's investment of an hour and ten minutes!

Another delightful show this year! My thanks to all of those who performed, and to the great folks who put on the NEISGS. Two special mentions I'd like to make here. One is a newly-written instrumental by Albert Svenddal called "Brumley's Bounce." What a great little tune, one that would d...

Sad to hear that this fine sax player has left us. I've enjoyed his work since his mid-to-late 1960s work on Atlantic Records..... :(

Our sympathies to the entire Dube family on Jerry's passing. He was always congenial, had a good word and a smile for people he met, and was a fascinating steel player. Nobody played "standards" quite like he did, and probably nobody will again. We enjoyed his playing for the last 10 years...

The loss of Jerry is a big one! We have seen him play dozens of times at various events.

We saw him at the NE Iowa Jam just 2 weeks before his passing, so I'm happy that he was still able to get around and enjoy himself even late into the progression of his illness.

Requiescat in Pacem, Jerry!

This could be thought of as a "thread crap," Tom, but there's another GREAT Young-Holt tune from 1969 called Straight Ahead, a 45 whose flip side is called California Montage.

Well worth a listen, IMO, if you can find a copy.....

"Happy Trails" by Roy Rogers / Dale Evans - steel

On a documentary show about 20 years ago I heard a version of this song that featured a steel guitar very prominently. I suspect it was something recorded in the 40s / 50s, but have no idea who the steel player may have been Reason for asking: I'd like to see if I can find a copy of this recording.

What a fun event! Backup bands just don't get much better than Roger Miller on lead guitar, Mark Wayne on bass, and Harry Lange on drums, and the fellows who filled in while these guys grabbed some chow or took a break didn't let the quality slip a bit! Yep, it was King Curtis. What a beautiful musician, and a fantastic player of just about anything with a reed.

Hell, he'd probably have been a killer oboe or bassoon player if he'd been asked to play either one!
