Everyone, as Barney points out Oceanside IS in San Diego County and I apologize if I made it seem it was somewhere in the sticks.

Billy, Buena Park to Oceanside is probably less than an hour so if Chance is asking gas money... it won't come to much!

Barney, look forward to seeing you there.

How D'Ya Do... 6 string lap; A6 tuning

Please refer to the Steel Without Pedals section where there's been some questions re How D'Ya Do. This is a very liberal interpretation of Billy Hew Len's version from the video... which we all seem to agree Mr. Len plays in A6 tuning rather than B11. I've brought the tune into A but that isn't abs...

1st Annual San Diego Vintage Lap Steel Guitar Show

Please refer to Announcements http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=183442

Although the ad says "San Diego," Steel Guitars of North County is actually in Oceanside, considerably to the north of San Diego.

Still, looks like it oughta be a hoot.

I play a lot of tunes and I notice that on bad days I tend to lapse into "playing the notes" rather than "playing against the chords." That is, my mind drifts away from the chord progression and focuses instead on whatever note is supposed to be next. I try not to slide into that...

Fun things to do on a dull evening

How do you search the entire US Craigslist at one time? I've got a method to search California for lap steels (and a couple of Arizona cities). One very dull evening I went through all the Craigslist California links entering the search term "lap steel" in the For Sale - Musical Instrumen...

Craig, Hipshot is in Interlaken, N.Y., down the road from Ithaca where I grew up. Dave Borisoff gave my brother, my son and me "the tour" around the place. He's a great guy and accessible by phone. --Steve Errr... sorry about that. I should have known that because I once ordered a Trilogy...

Try not to be too opinionated as to what music is "good" and what is "bad." Been there, done that. That type of filter delays appreciation of a lot of great playing. DO visit YouTube constantly... I find it's one of the greatest learning tools out there. Steiner, I work hard to t...

Josef, wonderful!! Your approach is very reminiscient of Setsuo Ohashi.

I love the way you and Setsuo approach a tune with that "no holds barred" philosophy (please excuse the very poor pun). I wish I could be so spontaneous.

Ray, interesting you should ask. Although I gig 2-3 Hwn guitar gigs/week (during the summer... I won't pretend I get that kind of work year-round), the 30+ tunes I keep in my head get rusty unless I rehearse them frequently. To keep them fresh I often busk in our city park, Balboa Park.
