Not a lot of people know about them but I've been very satisfied with my Dean GS-B5-TSB Gran Sport Solid-Body. Not too much $ used either.

It might be the case that your tone is still fine but you can't tell with all the loud stage volume. Maybe try to get some gig recordings with decent mic to see.

Jack's instructions are good. Especially get that String 3 .11 as tight as you can pulling it with pliers before you tighten the lock down screw.

If it's not tight enough you will run out of travel length of the tuner.

If you're sharing an amp, you may not have much individual channel eq available. I'd suggest an eq pedal for the steel. Or possibly even better some sort of amp sim pedal. C6 is a different beast than E9 but I have found going direct into PAs and into keyboard amps, they have a very "full range...

For a time I lowered my 2 lowest strings just as you suggest on a GFI ultra and needed no adjustments to accommodate the changes.
