Do you know if it will have a true bypass too? I've had my eye on the ST-122, but the combination of metal housing, clamp, and true bypass would be too good to pass up.

On my right hand side, tilted back about 40 degrees and right up against the legs of my pedal steel. I mainly have it there so that the controls are within reach.

I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD280s that I'm very happy with. I'd also recommend checking out Audio-Technica's ATH-M50. I haven't gotten a chance to try them yet, but they have gotten many rave reviews.

Merle Haggard had lung surgery

Bakersfield newspaper reports Haggard is recovering from lung surgery

A few days ago I got a call that my tickets to see Mr. Haggard on Dec 6th in Las Vegas were canceled. It took me a few days to find any reports of what had happened. I hope he pulls through.

A correction -- the bassist from Whitey Morgan saw my post and emailed me. Jimmy Mo is currently playing steel with the band. However, all the pedal steel on their record was done by Fred Newell.

Whitey Morgan and the 78's - anyone else listening to them?

On emusic.com I recent stumbled onto Whitey Morgan and the 78's new release "Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels". The songs mostly fall along a spectrum from country to southern rocks, with heavy influences from Waylon Jennings and Charlie Daniels Band. Lots of good songs and there is tons pedal...

I tried installing Ubuntu Studio right after it first came out. I'm a pretty experienced Linux user -- I've been running Linux systems on and off since 1994. I didn't use the default partition configuration, as I had another OS on the system I didn't want to get rid of. The boot loader got screwed u...

I can think of two good options for you. 1 - Download and install the free PDFcreator utility. This program installs a printer diver, which doesn't actually print, but instead saves the file as a PDF. Thus it allows you to create PDFs from any application that supports printing. Then you can just up...

The iPod dock comes with a remote control. The dock connects to your stereo system with a pair of RCA plugs.

The FM broadcast attachments are mainly used in cars. I personally have a difficult time getting a clean signal from the FM broadcast attachments, and I wasn't using a cheap one either.

The user interface on the iPods is well designed. If you are able to read newspaper size text, then you should have no problem with the current generation of iPods. The screens have a very high contrast ratio. You can construct playlists either on the iPod or in iTunes. Or you can shuffle the whole ...

I think the logic behind the redundancy goes something like this. Back when CD-ROM drives were new on computers, routing CD quality audio through the regular bus over to the sound card would have required a non-trivial amount of system resources. Therefore they added the little direct connection bet...

(442-440)*4 = (2)*4 = +8 cents

Most of the newer stand-alone DAWs have USB or firewire connections, which allow you to do a direct digital transfer. With older models that do not have such features, careful gain staging is about all you can do reduce the signal degradation.

In bad situations like this it is sometimes helpful to use one ear to listen to the headphones and push the other headphone cup back off your ear. Thus you can listen directly to your amp without any of their questionable gear in the path.

George, while a 4 ohm minimum is probably a good conservative rule, some amps can handle a 2 ohm load. For example, the Crow Macro-Tech series can handle a 2 ohm load ( specs ) and actually gets you a higher total output with a 2 ohm load. Your best bet is to consult the documentation for your amp. ...

Re: iPhone Impact on Future Gadgets

Today we see effects as plug-ins for recording software on computers. We see effects that are downloadable via computer into dedicated devices like the Line6 POD. I think that the size and flexibility of an iPhone-like platform for musicians could take this to a whole new level. I can't seem to fin...
