The changers shift the tuning. I haven't seen them used like modern pedal guitars, but a good player can smoothly use different tunings in a solo or individual phrases.

Lion's steel

Howard R, you are right. I've seen Lion play this style instrument and recall it had six changers. It seems like a pretty good system.l

Road Testing the Magnatone Multimatic

https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/395_Road_Test_Multimatic_1.jpg Last Friday during the sound check for Asleep at the Wheel in Cincinnati we gave the Multimatic a try through all eight tunings. Curtis Clogston found something musical in every single one. We were all impressed with it. ...

Echoes of the South Pacific

Margie Mays has been playing this tune at least since I first saw her in the early 90's. It's pretty safe to call it her arrangement.

This is one of my favorite tunes to play and Sol's version is wonderful. But he didn't write it, it's an old pop tune.

I played one of these at Elderly and was very impressed with the sound, volume, and looks of this model. If I were in the market for a resonator guitar, I would buy one of them.

I understand we'll be in a different room this year. We may feel the need to experiment with speaker plac...

Gerald mentioned to me at Winchester that he intended to post some videos on the web as soon as he could figure out how to do it. In his typical fashion, he got right on it and made it happen. The videos do indeed tell the story of what goes on at these conventions. You can see the serious and playf...

Can you have someone document that on video? Why not? If Rick is agreeable, someone could certainly videotape it. In fact, Rick is one of a number of metalworking artists featured in this exhibit that is part of a regional folk festival-the Cityfolk Festival. It is free and runs three days, with lot...

I recently bought an eight button Multimatic. It is a little shopworn, but NOS. This is the same model that Margie Mays played at Joliet, and that her husband tinkers with to keep running. She has two of them-one for parts. It jumps around a bit when you change tunings. Dickerson made just a handful...

There were actually two groups of hula dancers this year-Dori Neumeier brought her group, Hui Hula O Punahele-five dancers and three musicians. They are from the St. Louis area. They performed Naka Pueo, among others. Kayton Roberts is remarkable. There's no telling what will happen when he sits dow...

The guitar we used on Jazzing The Strings is my trusty 1928 tricone. I just dropped by the house to pick it up and head back to the convention. I wish you could have heard the sweet steel duets that Herbert Hanawahine and Duke Ching played last night in a restaurant in Winchester. Nahe nahe!
