Don't be modest C.E. as your contributions to this publication are highlighed by Andre's special thanks and notation of your collection's web address. Well deserved and the culmination of years of collecting these treasures. I've had the priviledge of getting to know C.E. over the past few years and...

Received my copy yesterday as well. I'll echo Richard's comments that this is undoubtedly Andre's most exhaustive work to date. Chock full of photos and detailed research this is a "must have" for anyone who owns (or should own!) a Gibson lap steel. It truly was his "labor of love&quo...

Rich,
You have a Kay lap steel which was typically sold under the Sherwood or Sherwood Deluxe brand name. Its missing the headstock detail that was typical but it appears to be the same steel. Looks to be in very good condition.

I went the "green" route using cigar boxes and scrap wood. Unlike the standard CBG (cigar box guitar), I build a lap steel/reso version with 6 or 8 strings. The acoustic versions have a piezo/preamp/tuner built in and the electrics have an onboard active tone circuits (overdrive, etc.). Th...

IMHO the Weissenborn has been built up to be the top dog hawaiian because of its design, use of koa and of course, the notable players who "discovered" them. I own a Style 1 and love her to death but I turn to a entry level 1940 Martin 0-15H for recording. I have several other hawaiian mod...

Gibson also produced a version that used a horseshoe magnet in some lap steel models after 1938.

Gregg, King of Pifers, you have been bestowed the title and associated property (1 hawaiian guitar) for the Land Down Under.
I'm "totally" sure its the same one!

Gregg,
The reason it looks identical is because its your guitar :D The name didn't click at first but Australia did! I never could verify that it was made for a hawaiian guitar school or instructor but it was pretty standard practice back in the day.

Actually Gibson produced 2 Royaltone models that were very different. Jim's is the first version manufactured in 1950-52 with a total of 607 shipped. I sold my first version Royaltone last year for $550 on eBay. The second version was released in 1956 however only 67 were shipped. It has a guitar sh...

Better late than never! It sounds like you are the <proud> owner of an EH-275. Gibson only shipped 25 and there can be confusion with the EH-185N but you clearly have the correct FON for the run in 1940-42. What is referred to as the ES-300 pickup is a great early design that lead to the post war P9...

It's not a CBG but an LBG (Lap Box Guitar)!

Okay no laughing ladies and gents  I've been building CBGs (Cigar Box Guitars) for the past few months but I started building what I call an LBG or Lap Box Guitar just a few weeks ago. This one is my latest creation - The Micubano LBG 6. Six string, 25.5" scale, red oak neck, maple fingerb...

I know of 7 owners with 10 out of the 25 shipped and would think a few have been been destroyed over the years. What I would like to lay my hands on is the matching amp with its maple cabinet!

I echo Paul's sentiment that SGF threads typically are not very collector friendly. This is one reason why I choose to lurk in the background and only post when questions concerning a particular model or value are presented to the community. Even though I'm also a player my primary instrument is not...
