I bought a Dual CS608 on ebay for around $80. The problem was, it got kind of jacked up during shipping. Anyway, there's this stereo service place that works on them and by the time I ordered a new cartridge w/ stylus and had some labor done, it cost me $130 above what I paid for the machine. It sou...

About a week ago, I was flipping through the channels and happened upon an entire set of Redd Volkaert with Cindy Cashdollar on her Fender. Man, talk about two fantastic players! It was on the local music channel here in Austin. They show lots of great local artist who often have a steel player. Wha...

Just hang in there. He took a few days to get back to me with my rewind request. It's well worth it. He rewound my original Sho-Bud and it sounds fantastic! Very fast turnaround too!

Bump for a great teacher. I took several lessons from Neil. If finances allowed it, I'd still be taking from him. He's really patient and extremely knowledgable. You can't go wrong!

I really like the sound of both bands! I've been playing for a year and a half, and hope to find a band to play with in a similar vein as y'alls' sometime soon.
Thanks for the cool links!

I used to have a '73 Vibrosonic with the big orange PS15 speaker. Man that thing is heavy! It sounds really nice and warm. I liked it, but man that old circuitry requires constant maintenance and it ain't cheap! I ended up trading it for a Steel King and I couldn't be happier. The sound is really go...

I especially like his playing on "All Those Years". I wonder if anyone will release that on CD anytime soon...I like the simple arrangements. Jimmy's soulfulness really stands out. Was he playing C6 on the Bob Wills tribute CD with Ray Price, "San Antonio Rose?" I love that album...

I loved it as well. The sound was superb. I hope they release the entire unedited performance sometime. They've done that for a few other artists. Was Graboff playing through two Twins?

Jon Graboff on Austin City Limits

Did anyone else catch the Ryan Adams performance featuring Jon Graboff on his beautiful JCH? Man, his tone was great! Really nice mix too. It helps that I'm a huge fan of Ryan's music, but I really thought the pedal steel sounded great! Was he playin' through 2 Twins?

Steel King and headphones

I was wondering if there is a way to run the signal from the Steel King to a small mixer that I could also run rhythm tracks through and listen to on headphones. I wouldn't want it to come through the amp speaker.
Anyone done this yet?
Thanks,
Jud

It'll be two years for me in April. I took a number of lessons from Neil Flanz here in Austin to get started. I remember my first lesson, I had my finger picks on backwards! He kindly showed me the correct way to place them and didn't even laugh. He really is patient and understanding. I'm just star...

As a beginner looking for a good course to learn by, which are the ones that best show how to play this way? As a true back-up player, that is.

I bought one of these about a year ago, except mine already had 3 pedals and 3 knee levers. I paid $750 for it and it needed some work. I'm fortunate enough to have Ricky Davis in town with me and ever since he got a hold of it, it's been nothin' but joy. My point is, if you buy it, have an extra fe...

Thanks to everyone, seriously. I don't think changing the pickup is going to be an option and I really don't want to anyway because like Herb said, it really is a nice sounding pickup. I'll keep foolin' around with the location, the pickup height, and the EQ until I have something I can live with. A...

Yeah Bob,
No dice...My Bud is a late 60's S10. I would love to try a humbucker in there, but I have yet to find one that will mount. It's got the screws that go through the top of the pickup (top mount). I don't even see those made anymore.
Anyone know of a humbucking pickup that will work?

Dave,
Thanks for the good advice. Do you have any suggestions on how to best EQ the hum out? I'll try to raise the strigs and see if that helps too.
Thanks again,
Jud

Dave, The hum is the worst the closer the steel is to the wall/window. I do have a transformer on the pole about 30-40 ft. from my window which is very close to the steel. Unfortunately, this is where I have to set up since I have a very small house, a wife and 2 kids. The hum disappears when my vol...

Hum - old house wiring

My house is kind of old and the wiring is outdated (2 prong). As a result, I get really nasty hum from my pickup. I recently got it rewound by Jerry Wallace, and the tone is awesome, but still that dreadfully loud hum. It doesn't happen at other people's houses, so I know it's my house wiring. I've ...

He plays a Williams through a Vox head and a cabinet with 2 12's I think. It definitely sounds gritty. Not your typical PSG sound. It works well with the "not your typical" band. I had the pleasure of seeing him play with Richard Buckner twice. It's what inspired me to play PSG.

Eric Heywood on Son Volt DVD

Anyone else out there own the recently released Son Volt live on Austin City Limits DVD? Eric Heywood is featured quite nicely on it with many close ups and tasty solos. I know the performance is eight years old now, but it's nice to see him get the spotlight a little more. I really like his unique ...

I will lower the cost to $650 and will consider shipping if necessary. I've never shipped a tube amp before, so I'm a little nervous. I've read a few posts on how to best do it (remove the tubes and bubble wrap them, ship the chassis separately, etc). Anyway, if this helps it sell, I'll consider it....
