Re: Cumquat

Wally Pfeifer wrote::D Hi John,
I'm not sure what the set up is with the Cumquat CDs at MTSU.
I would suggest you check

Wally, are the CDs available for checkout at MTSU, or just for listening? I have relatives in Murfreesboro and wouldn't mind seeing (or listening to) the collection the next time I visit.

Tom Brantley:

He rewound both my 8-string Ric horseshoe pickups when he worked for Lindy Fralin, and rewound both Fender Deluxe pickups when he was at Mojotone. He did an excellent job.

Steve, which Lollar pickups are you using? They (well, you) sound fantastic. Also, what amp are you playing through, effects chain if any, etc.?

Tom Brantley rewound a '47 Fender Deluxe pickup for me and did a fantastic job. I also had two Ricky 8-string pickups rewound for me by Lindy Fralin (when Tom worked there) and they sounded great as well.

You might try either low or high bass G with the 4th string raised from D to E. Strings 1-3 equal major chord, strings 2-4 equal its relative minor.

All in 2:30, courtesy of Buddy Merrill. Nice close-up at 1:00 of bar bounces and working a tone knob.

I always return to G or D (or A or E), 6 string. Every once in a while I'll retune the third string to go to a 6th tuning, but usually when accompanying someone else where I'll need minor chords.

Here's a link to Jason Lollar's version of the pickup. He winds to 7.9K, and says the pickup is an exact copy of an original. http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LGP&Product_Code=GCG&Category_Code=steel-guitar-pickups By the way, I looked up David Church ...

It looks a little like a similar idea to the pickups I had in my Fenders. You can see the cracked bobbin in the first pic; the second pic is after it was rewound. The red part would be the bobbin, I suppose. The wire is wrapped around the center plastic piece, 42 or 43 gauge wire. The strings go thr...

Actually the tension on each string can be about the same, or higher on the high strings. Check out the tension on each string listed on this set of pedal steel E9 strings. TH tension on the high strings ranges from 28.7 - 31.2 lbs, where the lower strings range in the low to mid 20's. http://www.da...

The body is steel and the necks are bakelite. The pickups were rewound by Lindy Fralin and sound amazing. I've had two Nationals (pre-New Yorker, an S-7 and a D-8) and two Fenders (both Deluxes from 1948-1949) before I bought this guitar. It's been said many times before, but there is nothing that s...

Not to muddy the waters (OK, it's a self-serving post) but I know of a late 40's Rickenbacher DC-16 that I'm looking to trade.

Rickenbacher DC-16 SOLD - PLEASE CLOSE

I have a late 40's Rickenbacher DC-16 for sale. Unfortunately, I think I've decided to go back to six strings instead of eight, so one neck and 10 strings have to go :). When I bought it the electronics didn't work and three tuner buttons had disintegrated. I replaced the tuner buttons. I also both ...
