Nick`s Taste of Texas-Covina,Ca

I`m happy to say I`ll be playing Saturday,March 24 with Mark Heffington and Zuma at this great venue. We`ll be performing a set of Mark`s originals and a few well-chosen covers at 8 P.M.,followed by our special guest, young blues guitar phenom Chase Walker. We`ll end with a anything-can-happen final...

Wow,another chapter in steel guitar history about which I`m totally clueless. What kind of music did this guy do? Any available anywhere?
Wonder if Gary Swallow ever saw one of those bars.
Sorry if this is off-topic.

I`m amazed nobody`s mentioned Paul`s "Looking Back" CD, available from his web site. If you want bang for the buck, it`s two CDs for $20, with plenty of cuts worth that much each.
Any Buddy albums are worth having, but Live 77 is one of the reasons I play pedal steel.

The set-up would be very different indeed, I think, for that to work. I`d tell you what I paid for my set like that, but you all would hate me. As the owner of two Fripans and one amp exactly like that one,I guess I should be happy to see this but I kind of hope we don`t get like some of my Bluegras...

The version on Herb`s site is a live recording from a German CD of radio transcriptions. If you go to the Ask Buddy archives on buddyemmons.com you`ll find a discussion of this tune. Buddy played most of it on an E9 neck tuned (high to low) E B G# F# D B G# E with pedals changing it to E C# A F# E C...

I case you haven`t see it, Stacy Phillips` first Dobro book (called, oddly enough, The Dobro Book) has a tab of Takin` Off. It`s based of Stacy`s version rather than an exact transcription but most of what Dunn played is there. If anybody else has any, I love to see them.

Hey Terry: Check and see if that price includes the little preamp box for the Shertler, you`re probably gonna need it or something close as the pickup (it`s really a hi-tech contact mike,I think)needs phantom power to work. I`ve the Basik for a few months and find it far superior to anything else I`...

Thanks for the input, guys. Bob, I couldn`t seem to make the link work. I`m planning to move to a C6th twelve-string tuning,so I will have the 7th string D as well as the C on the bottom. Having heard Paul (and Maurice Anderson) play amazing bebop stuff with no pedals at all at the TSGA, I know it`s...

Susan Alcorn in Best Music Writing 2006

Seems that when she isn`t reinventing the limits of the possible on the steel guitar, the Forum`s Susan Alcorn writes some fine prose. Good enough, in fact to make into this volume, published by a major house (da capo) and edited by a literary big shot (Mary Gaitskill). What`s more, her piece will r...

I keep thinking this has come up before but a search didn`t turn up much... Can someone explain the use of the first pedal in Paul`s C6th tuning? I doubt if I`d ever have the nerve to try something that complex but I`d sure like to know the thinking behind it. Anybody have any new, cool C6th changes ...

Interesting topic. I`ve been studying a little bit of Hindustani music theory lately (I`ll never be V.M.Bhatt but I can dream) and just today I was trying to find Western names for their 10 "thats" or parent scales. The Hungarian minor is called Purvi in their system. Six of the thats are ...
