Had this song in my head for the last couple of days. Some great shots of Ben Keith playing live with Neil Young just back in 2009.

Nashville 400 - Los Angeles area pickup *only*

I've got a Nashville 400 (I believe no mod) for sale. It's in pretty good condition - got a little paint dust on it at one point, but it works / sounds great. However, since I already sold my steel, it's been collecting dust, and it's time to let it go. I'll post a picture soon. S/N is 0A-04437126 H...

Just so it's clear, those pictures are just pics from the PHC site (the link I gave up above) - I didn't go to the show or take them myself or anything. But yeah - great pictures.

Re: Anyone see Buddy E. on Prarie Home Companion last night?

Last night PBS had a live Prarie Home Companion show for New Years at the Ryman in Nashville. I saw this great looking Zum and when they panned up, none other than Buddy was sitting behind it. His tone was impeccable....the problem is that they never let him really play. I heard Buddy play on anoth...

Lap steel repair in LA area

The caps on the tuning pegs of my ~ '54 Supro lap steel are coming off. According to the guy who replaced the first one for me, they are (or were, before they started totally deteriorating, at least) worth some money. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for someone who could do a ...

I guess hearing the steel a lot of different places and loving its sound did it... but the first thing that comes to mind is Kim Deschamps's pedal & dobro playing on the Cowboy Junkies "The Trinity Sessions". It's pretty understated for the most part, but it sounds great. And definitel...

I was at the show too. Jon Rauhouse was there as well, playing along with Neko Case, who opened.

I didn't see anyone mention Joni Mitchell's "California" (from "Blue"). I love the steel on that. Understated and beautiful.

I'm sorry to hear about this, and best wishes to you and your family.

My cat rarely ventures on the steel, but she does like sitting on top of the amp when I leave it on... she'll sit on the bench too if there's something soft on top of it.

Interesting that we seem to mostly be a cat loving group....

Michael - thanks for the reply. Any chance you could give a more detailed explanation (or links to some online resources explaining this process)? When the B pedal is fully depressed, the G#s are both in unison (at A). However, the high G# is more sensitive; so if my left foot touches the B pedal even the tiniest bit, the high G# is halfway / three-quarters of the way to A already, while the low G# is still at G#. Does that make sense? I can s...

High G# more sensitive than low G#

I may just take this one down to Blackie again, but just wondering if anyone here has an idea for an "easy fix". The "B" pedal on my MSA Classic (not sure of the year) seems to take the high G# up on a much steeper curve than it takes the low G#. This means that while the two str...

Two of the guitar players (Rich Gilbert and Dave Philips) for Frank Black and the Catholics play pedal steel (both play steel on "Show Me Your Tears", which also has a lot of cool steel guitar pictures on the album art). I don't think they usually both play steel at the same time, though.
