very nice, but...

I checked out the silverface Princeton re-issue as I've been waiting for a 70's one to show up in the UK for like forever... Anyhoo, the new silverface has been designed for earlier break-up apparently which I didn't care for. I thought the original 70's Princetons did that just fine - if it ain't b...

The VST "wall of sound" plugin is also very good and a nice entry point price-wise. I love the Alnico speaker + ribbon mic – I use that combo a lot for recording guitar and lap steel. I never use the power amp, EQ etc., so the pedal has more than I need. It's a cool piece of kit for sure...

That's cool Don. Funnily enough, I found myself using open strings much more since I've made the switch to C6, especially for Bluesy licks and what have you.

Another guitar with A6 may well happen some day all being well. :D

Hey Jeff, Went for C6 almost on a whim and I'm glad I did. I figured there'd be more instruction material available too, without having to transpose. Tempted to try A6 at some point for sure! Hey Don - yeah, I'm on high G too. I thought about trying D on the top and the C# thing, but step at a time,...

Palm lever divorce lead to C6 true love - a true story

I'm a novice steel player (messed about with E9 pedal for a while) and tried to carry the little I knew over to an 8 string lap steel project with 4 palm levers. Well... after almost a year of what can best be described as "fighting", I've given up! :oops: I re-strung with standard "h...

Just a whacky thought... What about having the amp re-biased if that hasn't been done recently? Tim's the amp guru here - what do you think Tim? Be good to at least know that the amp itself is performing as it should. As a Tele player, I found the first generation neo guitar speakers I tried too &qu...

Haven't tried them, but I do know they're very popular with metal / high gain distortion guitarists. Apparently, they do sound good clean (the lower output models) but I'm struggling to find demos of clean tones... My guess would be if you're finding your lower wound strings a little muddy after you...

Hello Ray, FWIW, I use one of these with my lap steel and electric guitars: http://www.carlmartin.com/product_rock_bug.htm I think it's great! The "open cab" setting is voiced quite nicely for steel - almost has that classic Fender amp mid-scoop thing going on. I've even been getting more ...

The scale length I came up with was based on my more E9 flavoured tuning. I'll do some more quick calculations a bit later. You may well be fine with 22.5" with open E. My problem string was mainly the top G#, which doesn't feature in open E. Also the travel on my B string lever was too much fo...

:oops: For some reason, I thought this was an 8 string project.

Low to high?

E
B
E
G# -> A
B --> C#
E -> F?

Well, with that tuning, I'd be tempted to try a standard set of 12-52s ideally with an unwound G string. Be nice if you found something "off the shelf" that worked.

One more thing...

I found this string tension calculator very useful for working out gauges and so on: http://www.mcdonaldstrings.com/stringxxiii.html For example, if you look at perhaps the most often discussed string in the history of pedal steel (:-)) the 3rd, high G#... Typically that's an 11. Even for the reduce...

Pretty sure the idea with those gauges in the set Duesenberg sells is to tune to open D / D A D F# A D.

Yep, just checked... the M-One includes a delay parameter to do what I was describing: High Cut Range: 500Hz - 20kHz High Cut filter that allows you to reduce the high frequencies of the Delay Taps. This gives you softer and more analog sounding Delay Taps which in some cases will seem less disturbi...

New member and effects junkie here! I agree with Larry. I used to review gear for guitar mags and presets nearly always have way too much effect. It kind of makes sense of you're trying to showcase how beautifully detailed and complex a reverb algorithm is for example, but too overbearing when you t...

Just for info, my wound 30W string (E) is almost 1/8" back from the 20 (G#) plain next to it. If you think of a typical bridge on a Telecaster we're used to seeing that those wound strings like to be set back a little. Of course good steel players (AKA not me) are used to compensating for this ...

Just saying what Tom is saying, but in a different way - short answer is "sorry, no" :-) The 12th fret should appear at exactly half the scale length, as has already been said. So for 22", obviously it'll be 11", and for 22.5", 11 1/4" as per Tom's comment. As for being...

Probably a dumb question, but...

On the offending string(s), if you pluck the octave harmonic with say your fingernail, is it right above the 12th fret marker?

I'll post pics soon - it may end up in the "new products" section :wink: I guess I should add, I've been using palm levers for a while now, initially on a Telecaster so I'm kinda use to having them under my palm all the time and blocking with my fingers. When we looked at the lever travel ...

Hi Tony et al, New guy here and I'm going to try and make my first proper post helpful. I have a custom build 8 string lap with Multibender and I ended up going with the rather oddball scale length of 22". This was after quite a bit of experimentation with a "plank" prototype. The big...

Hello from a new member

Hi Guys, After lurking for what seems like way too long I've signed up at last! So much good advice and information on here and it's been especially helpful during the build of my custom 8 string lap steel with Multibender - oh no - not another one! I hear you cry :) I dabbled with a borrowed pedal ...

Thanks for all the ideas guys - really appreciate it. Looks like most of you are suggesting A and B pedal type raises on strings 2 and 4, with the 9th "chromatic" on the 1st string. I can just about get my head round that from the little I've learned playing beginners E9 steel. I also like...

I do play standard guitar, but tuned non-standard if that makes sense?! I tune it EBEABE and have a wholenote raise on the top B via a palm lever. I also play a 3 pedal / 1 knee 10 string E9 steel very badly! Genre-wise, it's coutry-ish stuff. Alt.country, I guess you'd call it, whatever that is :-)...

Yeah, you're right. the more I think about it, the more I think that 2nd string is gonna ping! How about a D9 type tuning instead? I've added the string sizes that I think might work: <font face="monospace" size="3"><pre> A B ------------------ 1 10 E 2 09 F# +G 3 11 D 4 14 A +B ...

Advice needed - E9, 6 strings, two levers?

Hi. Appreciate this is a real primitive idea - kinda following on from DB's thread on the 8 string E9 ideas. It's for a "fun" project to set up a guitar for slide with a couple of palm pedals. At the moment, I'm thinking... 1 F# 2 G# (+A) 3 E 4 B (+C#) 5 G# 6 E So I've sort of got A and B ...
