I took guitar lessons from Smiley in 1966 for a couple years. Loved hanging out his music store in Ada. He was quite the character, loved kids. He co-signed several purchases with my folks permission. Really good guy. Just couldn’t skip the Smiley post without saying at least something.

Tons of CD’s

I do another where to post this so any help will be appreciated: Over the years I have accumulated hundreds of CD’s of most of the great Steelers in more modern times, i.e.pedal steel. I am downsizing my life and would rather try to give them away except for maybe a few Ill keep. I used to usually m...

Lefty, as a part time player due to my day job back in the day, I tended to overplay. One night the bandleader/lead player and very good friend leaned over and simply said “Larry, play between the cracks.” I got and understood the message. I knew better but was”excited.” I try to play between the cr...

Paul, Larry Hamilton here. JR Rose finally found me. Smiley built at least one steel in the 60’s, it was a D-12. As far as I can remember he always played an MSA D-12. I think he had at least one Chuck Wright built guitar when, I guess, Chuck worked at MSA. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck on...

Original fretboards for sure. Question #2: IMHO, history does sell and gives bragging rights about about the guitar. If anyone has ever had a garage sale or auction as I have, you just cant sell memories. Myself I would probably buy a certain amount of Steelguitar history as I think many players wou...

I have bothe volume pedals and like them both but my primary pedal is the Telonics. One of the tapers in the Telonics IS the Hilton taper and one for Hilton with aa little more gain toward the end of travel. So multiple pedals in one. Like was mentioned above, once you find what you like you usually...

This is what was made for me by a buddy of mine, DwightbCook, RIP, he could fabricate nearly anything. With my LG 11 it was perfect. He milled it out of a solid piece of aluminum.

Hey Jamie and Charles and Others, I have a John Hughey 15/16, 12 string bar. 3.5”, 9.4 oz. As weighed on a digital kitchen scale. Bought it shortly after they came out. Not used much at all over the years. Decided it was too long for me. I would break it out from time to time but was just too long...
