Hey, Roland. I'm coming to Amsterdam in a week, so I'll tell you my favorite Austin clubs if you tell me where the best blues is in Amsterdam, OK? http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif Most of the Austin forumites will probably suggest The Broken Spoke and the Continental Club. I would agree and add...

I'm not sure it's been mentioned yet, but..

I've learned more theory in the last month on this forum than I have in the last five years elswhere.

Do a search in the pedal steel or music section for a specific aspect of theory you are interested in. It's all here.

Have fun!

That's a neat story, Hap. I was just thinking that a blind person could probably play steel well. Intonation is a function of hearing, rather that seeing (as I am learning the hard way). Maybe looking at the thing is just getting in the way, anyways.

Ricky, thanks a bunch. I'll try that tonight.

Michael, I assume "fixed bias" means that I can switch out tubes like light bulbs, without adjusting anything?

Hum from Hot Rod Deluxe

My Hot Rod Deluxe has developed a very loud hum. It begins about three minutes after the amp has been turned on. the hum is just sharp of an open D on a guitar(in case this matters). When I shake each of the 2 power tubes, the hum kinda goes on and off. Anybody know what the problem might be here? T...

So, Leon. Would the Dominant (mixolydian) scale be the one to put over each major 7 chord? Or would you stick to a major (Ionian) scale? I've played that tune using pentatonics over that part, like BB King.

Excellent point, David. But isn't it equally likely that speech developed from song? Or, alternatively, that our distinction between speech and song may actually be unique to our culture?

Jeff, I think you're more of an expert on this topic than you give our self credit for. I see a doctoral thesis here somewhere... I've heard very little Indian (Eastern) music, but I have had the good fortune to hear several elder Native American men sing. Their songs seem as though they were not pr...

This is an interesting thread. It's almost as if musicians develop a unique, personal relationship with the emotions that different chords evoke. I think someone started a thread a while ago asking something like, "why do minor chords sound dark and sad?". VERY interesting stuff here that ...

I also will be travelling to Sweden, the UK, and Holland at the end of this month to play guitar for songwiters Pat Mears and Micky Kemp. We're doing a festival in Sweden on the 1st and 2nd of August- no details yet. Pete, I wonder if we'll bump into each other?

Mike, I'm curious as to what approaches you've already tried to accomplish this task. Couldn't you use several tracks to create the apparent randomness, as you describe above?

I've heard your music from your webpage, and you are a truly gifted musician. Best of Luck.
