Like most crossovers mine had one knee lever. If you look at the pic of Ernie's guitar it is a professional style finger housing. Mine was a separate comb like the wood neck ones but reversed around and screwed to the aluminium block. No idea of the serial no.

Another late crossover

Ernie Hagar's guitar might be a clue. There is a picture in Winnie Winston's book of Ernie. We know he played a ShoBud crossover and it looks like a Professional style of changer block on it. Here is a pic of the crossover I had here in the UK 40 years ago. It has the standard comb for the fingers m...

If you read the booklet it says the tape ran out during Silver Moon, this is why it stops as it does.

The young lady in Rod's video is Robin Ruddy (think i spelled it right) she's a multi instrumentalist and toured with Rod. She's a good pedal steel player and I think the Maverick is only a video prop.

Just got my copy of this. It's a great recording and really shows how Red and Nez blended together. Great information about Red too. There's a rare photo of him playing the ZB that he put his keyless tuner head on and took to the UK where he left it. I'd love to find a way of playing his solo on 'Si...

I also thought that there would be someone who used one or the steel rig which is similar. I had been looking to get one of these as when I'm in the studio I use a UA 1176 on the output. I use it with quite a high ratio to have it limiting rather than compressing. It really smooths out any harsh hig...

Sonny, that's a great job you've done. Have you any underside pics to show the mounting and pivot points? I like the way you routed out the top to create more clearance for the tuner screws, it looks very neat.

Hi Iain, a Dekley is a pretty rare thing here in the UK never mind a double 12. Are you looking for a tone like Bruce Kaphan got on his Dekley? I have tried a few pickups on my 12 string, and like you I don't particularly want a bright twangy sound. I have a 712 in at the moment and have previously ...

The first demo of this has the intro part for 'Emmylou' by the Swedish duo First Aid Kit. I wonder if Melvin Duffy has seen this or knows about it as he played the original steel part. I think my point is no matter how good a software package might sound, you need to have the mind and inventiveness ...

Here's my setup for my Hammond. I could use it for steel, but don't really bother. I have 3 leslies and have a modified 145 'shorty' at my studio. I use high powered drivers and solid state relays on the motor switching. I drive them with separate valve amps. I have 2 vintage Orange amps which have ...

ZB pedals

I need some ZB pedals. Any condition, they don't need to be polished and preferably with the 'dog-tooth' pattern. I would like 3 or 4, but any singles that anyone has going spare would be great. PM me or dave.pedal@outlook.com
Thanks, Dave.

ZB parts wanted

I am trying to find some ZB parts. I need 3 or 4 pedals (later type with dog tooth pattern) 2 knee levers preferably the cast ones and 4 pedal right angle levers. Condition isn't too important. I'm in the UK so finding bits out here isn't easy. Any help most appreciated.

Thanks Eric. Any underside photos would be great. It will be interesting for me to check out the neck to see if it has either been replaced or filled where the control plate should be. Also, if the pickup has wires for different coil taps. if the pickup has been replaced, that's going to be hard to ...

Here you can see the legs have been replaced, and what I think is an Ormston fret marker, which was a UK steel. Why was is PAINTED!

Thanks Dave. White pickup model too. The fret marker is missing on mine. I'm going to have to put feelers out for parts here. Also, the legs aren't original on mine, that's going to be difficult, and expensive n doubt. The main ting is that it hasn't been too butchered about, and I can make the miss...

Thanks Dave. That's exactly what I was looking for. It is to confirm that some were made. I've found one here in the UK that is missing a few pedals and has been PAINTED! I plan to restore it to how it should be. I think it must have been imported by Eric Snowball. I'm guessing it is a Brumley era g...

ZB single 12?

Has anyone got one of these? I don't think many of these were made. The type I'm thinking of is the 'step-up' design rather than a SD 12. Perhaps Greg Jones might have some info on these and which era they may be from. Any photos would be great, as I can't seem to find any. I'm particularly interest...

Thanks for the info, Malcolm. I wanted the 15 inch, which is more difficult to get as it's now discontinued. HOTROX is just up the road from me too! I pulled the trigger on a celestion at a great price.

Nashville 400 recap?

I have an old silver corner NV 400. I did the LeMay mod to it years ago and I'm giving it a refurb with a Neo speaker. Because I'm in the UK I've had to go for a Celestion BN15 type as it's hard to source a Sica without import costs etc. As I have it all apart I was wondering if I should recap the p...

Same issue for me

I too have an old silver corner NV 400. I did the LeMay mod years ago with great results. It just got too heavy for me to drag around. I've used other amps, but I've come back to the 400 cause it just sounds so good. I presume I have the BW 1502 in this, and I'd like to replace it with a NEO type. I...

Roger, Martin Jenner only started playing pedal steel when he joined Barbara Dickson's band in about 1975. He had a 'Driftwood' pedal steel built by Pete Wilsher another UK player. Dave.
