Replaced the Ducati 996 with one of these. Just as fast and even more fun. Hey, this one goes to 17! <img src+http://www.mvagusta.com/bank/2/84.jpg> <p align="center...

6 strings? 8 strings? One guitar or two?

I'm looking for a lap steel (or maybe two) and I could use some advice. I'll use it (them?) for two types of music. One is the blues/rock 'n roll Elmore James E-tuning stuff but I also like to play swing stuff and jazz standards, so I'd really like to try some of that on steel. So... would I be bett...

Harmos Guitars

Anyone have any comments about Harmos guitars? Note... I've searched the forums and have read the earlier responses; just wondering if there are any new Harmos owners/players out there, or if anyone has any further observations after playing theirs for a while. Thanks.

I'm told that the "lead dress" (wiring) of the silverface amps was progressively changed for the worse as the silverface years went on. Earlier silverface amps have little or no change, but some say to "do it right" the wiring on some of the later ones should be blackfaced as wel...

Dirk to answer your question, I guess the older MSA sound would be more in the direction. I'd like more of a woody or breathy sound than what I've heard. Again, don't get me wrong guys. I'm a big fan of the steel especially in the jazz context. Even working with instruments designed to deliver the &...

Henry, IMO, the big problem with jazz and steel is the voicing of the instrument. Operationally, it offers tremendous possibilities for the jazz player, but I think the inherent tonality prevents a lot of players from playing one or including one in the ensemble. Considering those limitations, I'm a...

Newbie needs "tone" help!!!

Hello again to all. I'm looking for some direction to help me on the road to developing good jazz tone (swing to bop, more bop than swing). Which CD's or internet links demonstrate the best jazz tone on a pedal steel? If you know what kind of gear was used on these recordings, that information would...

Tony, like you I'm a "beginner" and after much deliberation, I went with a U-12. Since steel has such a long learning curve, I didn't see the point in learning two necks when one is tough enough. As your interests already include more than one style of music, you might be better served by ...

I've got a Super and love it for guitar, but not for steel. I'd suggest you play one first - maybe you can try one at a music store. Granted, it won't be identical, but you'll at least get a general idea of the sound. Buying an amp only to find out you don't like might be an expensive proposition. T...

Thumb and three fingers, thumbpick only, a "Pro-Pick" or something like that. I tried fingerpicks for a couple of days and never picked 'em up again. The fingertips are so sensitive and offer so much tactile feedback and dynamic range that it seemed like a bad tade-off to give all that up ...

Just the kind of info I was looking for, so thanks very much Gino, Ricky and Cartwright. The blonde Twin-Amp I have would probably be perfect for many steel players but is actually too clean for my tastes. I do like the massive, clear bottom end it produces, hence the search for the bigger OT. It wo...

Ricky D, Gino boutique steel tube amp?

Ricky, on another post you indicated your Twin has been modified. Have you done any experimentation with transformers, especially the OT? I've had a few discussions with a local amp tech regarding tube amps for pedal steel. After explaining the bass range demanded by a C-6/B-6 neck and my desire for...
