I have a Diana and a Tonemaster and the pickups are nearly identical.
Both guitars sound great though quite different. Incidentally, that's real Brazilian rosewood on the fretboards and if you clean them up you may see some beautiful figuring in the wood.

Cheers,
Ed

Wow, I used to have two of those, a roundneck and a squareneck. Still have the roundneck and it is only useful for slide but it sounds like nothing else. I used both guitars on my "House of Guitars" album. Love those old funky ones, hope you're loving yours.

Probably won't be teaching any lap steel, but I'll most likely have a Weissenborn style guitar with me, and I'm always happy to sit down for a bit with anyone who's curious about 'em. Look me up if you're at NGW.

Hey guys- Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp features a week or so of lap steel instruction, usually by Cindy Cashdollar. She teaches there in August but I think her class is sold out. Jorma's a steel guitar nut, and it's great that he's included some steel in the program. I've taught ther...

Hey guys- pardon me if this appears twice, AOL shut me down as I was submitting it the first time. You guys are way too kind, thanks a million. Nice to meet you, too at NAMM, Dan, those THD Univalves are pretty unreal, huh? I appreciate your kind words about "House of Guitars," too. Those ...

Hey guys- Wow, thanks a lot! I just happened upon the Events and Announcements by mistake and found your kind words. They're appreciated. Now i wish I would've played "Moon River" on a Weissenborn (actually, I did try; I think it's impossible). I usually only check the No Peddlars or somet...

Hi- Weissenborns indeed used fretwire for the saddles, although I have a Style 1 that has an aluminum saddle. Unusual. Bill Asher is making Weissenborn guitars now, and I played a couple at the NAMM show in January. He had a Style 1 and a teardrop model; both sounded great but I was really taken wit...

Hi- Just gotta chime in here about the low end in a Weissenborn... I've got three Weissenborns, two Style 1's and a Style 2. They are all different sounding guitars, but all have really amazing bass response. The depth of each guitar varies a little bit, as Weissenborns often do (from 2 7/8" to...

Hi (hey, Andy!) I do like the Rare Earth humbucker a lot and have been using it on my touring guitar. If you're looking for a bit more of the acoustic sound, try a Rare Earth Blend. It's got a condenser mini-mic attached and you can dial in varying amounts of pickup/mic. Very nice. Good luck. Cheers...

Hi- I heard a prototype of the tricone pickup a few years ago at the Highlander shop and was very impressed. It sounded like a tricone only louder (*much louder*). I'd check one out. I also heard Fishman's new dobro/National pickup and was impressed. One thing that I noticed was how much rattling th...

Hi, thanks again for the info. Sorry to hear that Willie Eason's not playing much any more. His "Near the Cross" on the "Live" CD is one of my very favorites (listening to it right now, as a matter of fact). I should take this opportunity to thank you, Bob, for the great work you...

Thanks for the replies, guys. I hope to have the amp looked at fairly soon.
Any opinions on the sound of these things? How's the vibrato?

Epiphone Electar Zephyr Amp

Hi Everybody- I just became the proud owner of a near mint Epiphone Electar Zephyr amp (and steel). The amp is supposedly a '42 and is barely working. Anybody have any info on these? It appears that there's a vibrato but it's not working, and there's a loud pop every time a note is played. I'd like ...

Hi-
I've got two Oahus; a Diana (maple) and a Tonemaster (mahagony). They look to be of similar vintage and are nearly identical in every way. I gotta tell you, the Tonemaster is much brighter than the Diana. The Diana is as fat and rich as can be.
So, why not make two? ;-)

Hi Brad- thanks a lot for your speedy reply. The Diana's serial number kinda threw me, too, but there it is, stamped into the headstock. Q: Dates of mfg for old steels

Hi Everybody- I just re-strung a couple of my steels that hadn't been played in awhile and got to wondering about the dates of manufacture. If you know the dates or can direct me to a good source of information I'd be much obliged. The steels and serial numbers are: National Dynamic #X36783 Supro Do...

Hi Terry-
yeah, it's me. (Actually, the song is "The Water is Wide.)

Come to think of it, the Dunn I played may have been cedar. I remember the guitar being an intense yellow color; we might be speaking of the very same instrument.
Cheers,
Ed

Hi- Glad to see that your budget has increased; now you're in the zone where a real instrument can be purchased. Of the few Weissenborn copies I've played, Michael Dunn's came the closest to sounding like a real Weissenborn. I played one at a NAMM show a few years back (spruce and ?) and it was loud...
