I went through almost the same thing. got divorced and moved to Austin from DFW in 2004. I had no motivation to play. Then in 2006, just when I was starting to play again, an unexpected surgery changed all that. I finally set it up again last month and I am so glad I did.

Well the weekend came and went. The gig had some good moments and terrible moments. I broke a string the first song of the second set. I was really upset because it was a brand new set and I actually knew that song. The bass player took every rabbit trail possible, but I survived and they want me fo...

You guys have given some great examples. I've been playing for years, but it's always been with the same guys who could read each other's minds. I've avoided much of the "hired-gun" situations because that usually involves a bunch of top 40 songs which I don't listen to that much. If they ...

Learning 4 of 5 sets by the weekend.

Most of us have "filled-in" or started with a new band. I'd like to know what some of you do to "cram" or prepare for 4 or 5 sets, in a short time, with people you haven't played with before. You want to sound good, but at least 2/3 of the songs are new to you?

How many have burned out sometime during your pedal steel ca

I?m sorry I haven?t been on the forum for many months. Plain and simple. I had a burnout year. Employer went out of business, Mother passed away and the grind of playing in bars, bars, bars took its toll. Last Saturday I played on my steel after not touching it for a couple of months. It felt pretty...

Jim, I've been using mine (live) for about 2 months. I don't even carry my Nashville 1000 to gigs any more. The Twin Reverb path is great if you're plugged into an adequate sound system. Since I use ear monitors I don't hear what the crowd hears, but I get tons of compliments on the tone of my steal...

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago. I tried ear monitors on my last gig and will never play without them. I was playing in a large club, but to me it sounded like playing in a studio. All I heard was the mix, including me. I played better than I had in years because I heard every note I played.

Eddie,
It seems to me if you use a rig like mine, but only use one of the ear buds - you'll get the effect you're looking for. That would let one ear hear the stage/crowd and the other the mix. I prefer using both ears. It gives you a "studio" type sound with no stage distractions.

Well I've figured out some pretty beefy tones for this POD. You can crossmatch Amp type with Cabnet type and get some great combinations. There are no Peavey settings, but the Blackface Twins are killer. Line6's web site also offers some patches for downloading (non for steel) that emulate Vince, Al...

OK, I got the manual out and just went through some basic settings (65 Twin Reverb) with a little delay and the sound is great! I haven't played it "live" yet, only through my stereo here at home. If it sounds as good through our band's system as it does here at home I'll never carry an am...

More POD stuff

I just bought a POD (2.0) and I'm just wondering a couple of things. Some folks mentioned a ver 2.2 chip. What's the difference between 2.0 and 2.1? The Line6 website only mentions the 2.0. The units being shipped to stores today are 2.0s. Besides that.. Anyone come up with some real clean rich stee...

The input comes from the same xlr port on the snake as the stage monitor. I'm not a sound guy so maybe our sound man had to set the channel differently, but it worked fine.

Here's what I did.. 1 Set of GOOD earbud phones. I got mine (Koss) from Best Buy for 25.00 2 Some type of portable stereo amp for the headphones. I used a Rocket Mini amp, but any amp that will take a stereo signal in and let you use headphones should work fine. A friend of mine uses a Danelectro mi...

This Just In.. Steel Play Hears Himself Play

Last night I used ear monitors for the first time and it was incredible. I heard what I wanted to hear (me included) and filtered out who I didn't need to hear and it was great. I was hitting licks like never before. In tune all night long because I could hear every note. If you're struggling to hea...

Peavey Bandit 65 for steel???

I went over to a practice the other day and the bass player told me I could run through one of his old amps and save my back from hauling the NV 1000. I figured I would try it out (a Peavey Bandit 65 single 12). This amp flat put out the sound. For a single 12 and only 65 watts (I think it's even so...

Hi Jeff, I played steel through a keyboard amp for several months. I used a Peavey KBA300 with 1 15" scorpion plus a horn. FANTASTIC keyboard amp, but not so good for steel. Keyboard amps are designed for a different level of input than a guitar or steel amp. I switched to a Nashville 1000 and ...
