Wow, I loved the Youngblood Album with "Get Together" in my younger days. I had no idea there was pedal steel in there. I'm going to dust off that album and check it out. Then again, I didn't pick out the steel in Elton's "Tiny Dancer" and so many others, I'm sure.

I would find a teacher and buy some lessons. Hopefully one that records your session so that you can review it between lessons. I started late at 45 and I, like you, feel like I'll be be forever learning the instrument. Been 8 years now and I still feel like everyone else is better than me. Time is ...

The song that I saw this steel on was called "A Satisfied Mind". The film clip was from 1967 and Porter said it was "one of the old ones" refering to the tune.

A stand up pedal steel

I saw an interesting steel guitar on a Opry video of Porter Wagoner from the mid-60's. It was a Sho-Bud with 8 strings and 2 pedals. The player stood to play it. Familiar with that one? I wonder who the player was? He sang harmony too. That steel guitar sounded really great.

Thanks for the "slowdowner" report. My IT skills and interest are not probably what they should be considering IT is the rule of the day but, that being said, my wife just got a brand new iMac OS 10 computer and it has "Garage Band" installed. I dozed off while trying to understa...

Is there tab out yet for Josh Turner's "Firecracker" or Montgomery/Gentry's "Lucky Man" parts? I just do the "A" to "B" repeat on my old CD player until I can't take it anymore or I actually figure the part out to my satisfaction. How do you like that "Am...

Lovin' Spoonful

Just saw a special last night on MPT of John Sebastian and the Lovin' Spoonful. There was an old film clip of a performance where the guitarist was playing a single neck pedal steel. Who knew! I don't recall the tune, though.

As far as the John Q. Public question goes I think if the steel is in tune, in time, has a semblance to a riff they think they heard on their favorite tune, has some tone and feel, it's good. Mega notes a minute, 27 knee levers, a black PP Emmons, etc. have no meaning. Around here there aren't many ...

Just a fantastic CD. Some of the classics with today's recording technology, great steel by Mr. Johnson, and Rhonda Vincent's back-up and lead vocals are second to none.
