I think I can help

I've got a 52 week Emmons Course. The last thirteen lessons are John Hughey and the song names match up. I've gotta assume the tabs are the same. The only problem is I copied these onto my hard drive to save the tape. Would a CD of the Steel and Rhthym tracks work for you? E-mail your address to sho...

Shobud beginner books

Danny Boy is in book 3 of the Shobud beginner series books. The book is probably hard to find - I got mine in 1972 or so when I bought my Maverick from Sounds Good of Evanston, IL. I thought it sounded pretty good a few years ago.

Rusty Young - POCO at Cubby Bear, Wrigleyville 9-25-09

Marty Du Bois and I met at Cubby Bear in Chicago for this show. While we were sitting BS'ing about steel, Sam Rogers asked if he could sit with us since there was an open chair. Turns out he's a steeler too. (I use that term for the three of us somewhat loosely, considering the heavy hitters on this...

Thanks Larry,

I know/knew that the single note scale was simply the major scale from the two. It never occurred to me that the same harmonization works. Thanks for the insite.

Very cool Larry. My question is: whats the theory behind constructing harmonized minor scales? I have my fretboard all loaded in excel with a search macro - so I can find it - once I know what I'm looking for. I've done some light searching of the jazz sites and haven't found anything on this. -----...

Hi Bob, I don't really have a great collection of guitar music. I happened across "Harvest" at a music sales for ALS sponsored by a Chicago radio station - WXRT. Everything they had was quite inexpensive and all the money went to ALS research. I could't believe they had a Pedal Steel part ...

I have "Off the Record Harvest". However, the book is not in tab, it is in regular musical notation. The wild thing is that this book has the parts for every instrument played on the album. In "There's A World" and "A Man Needs A Maid", both played with the London Symph...

Tab from Guitar Player Article from April 1972

While doing research for another project, I went through a bunch of back issues of Guitar Player on microfiche. In those days (late 60's - early 70's), there was a lot of interest in pedal steel in the magazine. There were few issues that did not have adds from all the major manufacturers. The regul...

Hi

RR will be appearing Nov 16 in Chicago at the UIC Pavillion. He'll be opening for John Mayer.

I'm not going to miss this show. RR was at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn last year & I didn't go because it was a week night (it is a 60 mile drive).

Hi, My 2 cents is: I do my theoretical thinking in practice. I'll try licks using something specific - such as avoiding a 4 - playing with recordings. When I play live I usually freeze and forget everything anyway http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif . Hopefully, if I've found something truly usefu...

It was too bad you missed them. I overheard someone saying they had heard DNB the night before in Stevens Point and had to come down to Madison to hear some more.

Hi I saw the David Nelson Band in Madison WI last Friday (13th). The band was outstanding! First set was semi-acoustic and featured a lot of blue grass and old time songs with extended jams. The second set was electric and included a wide range of material including New Riders and Grateful Dead. The...

Hi Don, Just to throw my 2 cents in -- thanks for tabbing "Unchained Melody". I played it at a fund raiser for a local Art program and got a lot of compliments on the choice of song. I played it well enough but still can't hit it the first time. My memory needs work! Practice! Practice! Pr...

Hi, Sorry about the confusion, Larry. It's just the standard 1/2 tone flat - I was in a hurry and was still thinking about intervals. Paul, an interval is simply a single chromatic step. A minor third is three intervals. In a dominate 7th chord there are two intervals between the flat 7th and the to...

Hi, I found this topic interesting - it's always nice to find something that fits a lot of places! Just to clarify though, these chords are all SUS chords - which are definitely amorphous sounding - they have the interval of 2 in common with dom 7th chords and with no third can be played over minor ...

I have been very interested in the Carter Student Model. It has an amazing list of features - 3 pedals, 4 knee levers, a decent pickup. One leg is adjustable. It ways 20 lbs and comes with a gig bag. It costs $895. I could buy a new one every three years if it wears out and come out ahead. What am I...

Is there a copendent setup that pulls B to C?

I've been working on some chord charts for my steel and have a copendent question. Is there a reliable way to raise the 10th and 5th strings 1 semitone (as in A1/2)? I don't trust myself to do a fast in tune A1/2. I'll use it a few times going into an Augmented where I can hear the note come into tu...

Hi, I'm working on my own chord dictionary for E9. Given the amount of time I've spent I should have just bought one from Joe Wright! In all honesty, I've learned a lot by having to think about. I've set up my chords in the key of G and have not been able to use the Transpose function of Tabledit. I...
