Although this was not unexpected, it is sa nevertheless! d

Although this was not unexpected, it's still sad to know that Kenny is "gone home!" I treasure the memories I have of long phone conversations that Kenny and I had about steel players; about how they did different licks and so forth! Was hoping I'd get to see him or talk with him again, bu...

More On Hank Williams Mother's Best Show

Hello again: A few days ago I posted a question about one of the Mother's Best shows that Hank Williams did; I had wondered about the steel player on the show that starts out with Hank singing "I Can't Help It" for possibly the first time..think the show was aired in April of 1951. I had t...

Russ: That's a different show than the one I'm speaking of; the show in question is on disk 7, tracks 22-27. The first song (following the introduction)..is "I Can't Help It, followed by Panhandle Rag; then "Gathering Flowers For the Master's Bouquet; Jerry Rivers finishes it out with Bill...

Well..on the cover of the CD which contains that show, they even list it as "Don Helms"..but my ear tells me differently! I suspect that what happened is this: the folks who put this set together, by virtue of the fact that it was known that Don was a member of the Drifting Cowboys band..n...

Mother's Best Show With Different Steeler?

Hello: I was fortunate enough to receive as a Christmas present..the complete "Mother's Best radio shows that Hank Williams did in 1951. I've actually heard most of these shows before..and something has always nagged at me! Granted: I haven't read the book that comes with the box set, so it may...

Sweaty Palms And Fingers

Not sure if this is exactly the proper section of the forum to put this..but I figured I'd start here..and it can be placed in the appropriate spot. All of my life, I've had problems with my hands sweating fairly profusely (my feet sweat too..but so far, it really has no bearing on playing music)..a...

Why Only One Grand Ole Opry Show?

I've noticed here of late that the Grand Ole Opry has just the one sshow on Saturday nights now! I am aware that..from time to time..especially around the holidays..they'd have one show. But I'm noticing more and more that (so it seems)..every Saturday night is just one show! Does anyone know if thi...

Sounds like there are some good shows in the coming weeks; Eddie Stubbs (if I heard right)..said that you all are taping a show with Ray Price? If so..that's great; looking forward to that one..and more! I'll hopefully get to hear you guys on the opry and..oh my..better get the television on so I do...

I agree with all the above; Ronnie can sure sing that good, hard-core country when he wants to! And yes..The Marty Stuart Show is the real deal; I love the fact that..along with "True Country"..you'll actually see the pickers whenn they take their instrumental brakes!

Well..while we're talking "Pete Drake"..you know, I can see how people can be fooled, for Pete had two different styles; there's that style we know of when he did all those recordings on Epic; then there's the eariler stuff..like when he recorded in the early 60s; two entirely different st...

Because I was almost certain that Billy Sherryll was producing Jones at the time, this makes me believe that it was Pete Drake. Just as an asside, before he was on Epic (George Jones)..he was, as has been pointed out, on Musicor; before that, he was on United Artist; before that was Mercury and befo...

That video of Hank Williams was interesting! Since I am visually impaired, it is difficult for me to really see the positioning of chords! However I hear pretty well..and my ear tells me that Hank did "Lovesick Blues" in the key of "F"..therefore, when he went to the "4"...

Well I guess that's the thing that bothers me about the "closed second string": it doesn't sound quite as full to me! However I can sort of understand the idea of a more "bluzy" sound..with the second string closed, it almost has the affect of an open "e" chord. I do se...

In my case, I use the "old G"..not because that's the way Lester and Hank done it; I just happen to feel that the old way sounds better to my ear! I have a hard time listening to a lot of the bluegrass of today (you can hear the rhythm guitar more predominately there)..so I find I hear thi...
