You guys are absolutely awesome. J.D., Ian and everyone, thank you for the information. I have been watching ebay and have been surprised by how many Rick B's have been available and the wide range of prices they are going for. I saw a 7 string go for $1250 and a 6 for $515. In any case, thanks for ...

What's the difference between Rick eras?

What is the difference between the various B series Rickenbachers? I have heard that prewars are the way to go. How can you tell a prewar from a later one? Why do some have white bakalite covers and others have the plated covers? Are the 7 strings a lot more rare than the 6's? Or are they just more ...

Thank you one and all. I went and checked out what was available on ebay and was surprised to find several B 6's & 7's for sale. Price seems to vary. Last one I saw went for $515 and it was in emaculate condition. Thanks again for all of your help. - Dave

How much for Rick B6 or B7?

What is the general concensus on how much one should be expected to pay for a Rick B6 or B7? I would like to find one but I don't want to pay the moon for it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Definitely "Dobro" by Mike A. I found this album in my best friend's bother's room when I was 16 and I still get chills listening to it. Also gotta have Mike's "Old Dog" album. The Foggy Mountain album by Flatt & Scruggs has some classic Josh songs and also has some of the on...

I have played a couple of the K&S mahogony and spruce Weissenborn copies and liked them very much. David Lindley is on their web site talking about how much he likes his but notice that he makes a point of qualifying that by saying that he likes them with a Sunrise pickup in them. I agree, they ...

Î bought my Sheerhorn bar for about $40 US from Elderly's this summer. I love it. A very smooth playing bar and I agree with Bill that you seem to have a bit more control. They are sharp and I must say, having fumbled it onto the top of my guitar once that it can nick pretty good. Seems to fit my ha...

Howard - I think the impression that Mike A. played a roundneck set up lap style may come from the cover of the "Dobro" album which features a photo of a roundneck. Just a guess. Where is the real authority on this question?

Mikey - The prewars came in 12 & 14 fret, round or squareneck. My Dobro teacher (Cal Hand) had the first prewar 14 fret squareneck I had ever seen. I lusted over that thing for years. There's just something about those small bodied ones that I love. And the tone can't be beat. I would take excep...

I don't know about anything on-line, Steve, but if you want to date a National resonator guitar, look in the back of Bob Brozman's book on Nationals. If you're looking for something on, say, a 1960 Supro resoglass I think you are out of luck. Brozman does a good job of covering a lot of the pre-war ...

I like the Flattops. They don't make as much noise as phosphor and they're not too brittle sounding like so many new strings. Haven't tried the Elixers but I must say I don't like them on my acoustic guitar. Way too "new" sounding for my taste. IMHO. - Dave
