If you want to do that sitar sound on the fly, you can do the Rob Ickes trick. He turns the bar parallel to the strings until it starts to get that buzzing sound. You'll hear him do this on his version of Caravan

Cool stuff!

Any chance you'd tell us your signal chain there?

You got a very slick tone.

I'm a big fan of all the stuff you post. You have very good musical taste.

Do you always play bare fingers in the right hand?

About those "speed pots." Are those made only by Duesenberg?

I couldn't find anything else like it after some google-ing.

I'd love to try one of those, but it'd be it be a little pricey to buy them in Euros and have them shipped to the US from Germany.

Stringmaster on Ebay

Hey There,

I sadly need to let go of my '56 D8 Stringmaster (need the funds).

I would love to see it go to a good home. If a forumite is the winner, I will gladly donate a cut to b0b.

Here's the link.

The "someone" said he found this information about the swtches on this website: http://home.insight.rr.com/steelgtr/stringmaster.html I'm looking at a picture of the penciled in date under my tuing pan and I don't see how it could be anything but 11/56. Under the other tuning pan it says R...

Dating Stringmaster - pickup switch

Hey Gang, Need a little help from the experts. I have always thought my D8 Stringmaster was a '56 based on the pencil mark under the tuning pan which says 11/56. I've never gone in and checked the date on the pots. My stingmaster has the pickup switch instead of the buttons. Someone told me that the...

Sounds good Rick.

Is that really a 26" Quad? Wow! That's a lot of guitar.

Were you using the backing track from the JB course? If so what tuning are you up to?

Hey Mike,

I'm with you. I prefer playing lap style, but I can't do the VP unless it's a console.

Sometimes if I sit up higher than usual I can get it to work, but then I have trouble with the guitar sliding down to my knees.

I'll be there at that time too.

I checked the HSGA site and it looks like it'll be worth calling some of the nicer hotels near Kapalua. It looks like there might be something there.

Stacy Phillips has a Tipton capo. He showed it to me at a workshop. He also mentions it on his website.

It doesn't sound like a very popular capo, but I'm interested in it just the same.

While we're on the topic of capos . . .

Does anyone out there have a Tipton capo? Tipton doesn't have a website, so I have no idea where to get one (or even try one) and how much they go for.

Many thanks

There's a restaurant in San Francisco on the corner of Market and 9th called Ananda Fuara. It's vegetarian food of course, but really good. Anyway, everything in the restaurant is a tribute to this guy. His paintings are all over the walls along with pictures of him doing the feats of strength Bill ...

Glad to know this thing exsists! Charlie, or Dan have you ever heard it compared to the regular short scale ones? Thanks for the photo. Looks nice. I'll have to keep an eye out for one. I like the idea of having that pickup in a longer scale. It should lend itself to open D, or E better than the 22&...

long scale with Supro pickup?

Was there ever a lap steel with the Supro/Valco/National/Oahu pickup that was made in a longer scale length? Or were they all the short scale?

If so, how does it sound?

I love my routine with the Jerry Byrd instruction materials. I have the play-along CDs loaded on my iPod (panned left for the backing tracks) and I play through all the lessons until I get to the one I'm working on. With the iPod playing along with me through my MicroCube, it's a nice little persona...

Artisan Legs?

In the what's under the MOTS post, Brad suggested an idea that I've been thinking of. It's almost worth buying one of those Artisan steels, just for the legs. I've wanted to put legs on my Oahu for a few years now and I'm considering the Artisan as a source. Does anyone have any clue about whether i...

I know a lot of times neck pick-ups are placed right under where the 24th fret would be. It lead me to believe that pick-up placement had more to do with harmionc sweet spots.

Is this ture for bridge pick-ups?
