Thanks guys. Bb6th seems to make sense. I was becoming more and more convinced that it couldn't possibly be E9. Great fills in that song.

Sneaky Pete: E9 or C6?

I'm stuck on Gilded Palace of Sin these days, and I'm trying to figure out what Sneaky is doing on Sin City. Is he using C6 or E9? For the most part, did he stick with one neck or the other?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Michael. After much patient tweaking, it turned out the stop screw was the issue. Things sound MUCH better now.

Carter Starter F Lever Question

I'd appreciate some direction on a minor problem I'm having with the F Lever on my Carter Starter. I've been playing the Starter for about 10 months now, and over the past two months I've began regularly experimenting with using the knee levers. I've recently discovered two issues with my F Lever. 1...

Everyone please note that every description of alt.country posted here is different from the last. The phrase has effectively lost its meaning. I think it's safe to say that alt.country originally was coined to define the punk/country fusion originated by Uncle Tupelo, which was then stretched to ac...

change pulls on carter starter?

Is it possible to change the pulls on the Carter Starter? I'd like to try out Jimmy Day's set up that b0b has in the tunings section on his website: http://www.b0b.com/tunings/stars.html#E9jd I'm pretty sure Al Brisco said he could do it when he sold it to me, but he recommended I try out the standa...

Chris. From what I know, Jimmy Roy has joined since Big Sandy recorded his last album (Night Tide from 2000.)
Jimmy Roy used to play in Ray Condo & His Ricochets, a Vancouver-area band that mines the same territory as Big Sandy.
And I agree, Lee Jeffries is no slouch either!

That's really interesting, Jody. As a matter of fact, I had a dream earlier this week that parallels your idea. I dreamt that I started a record label that released albums pairing great steel players with different artists. I remember one of the albums was Buddy Emmons with Sonny Rollins. And Robert...

Thanks everyone. It's great to learn all about the giants. I'm going to track down a whole mess of these albums. Tom Bradshaw has a whole bunch of Curly on tape: http://www.songwriter.com/bradshaw/achalker.html

Curly Chalker

I've been reading an awful lot about Curly on the SGF. I'm sort of a newbie on the PSG, so I'm constantly learning about everything when I read what all you great people have to say. Is there any recommendations in the way of recordings I can pick up that have Curly on them? As far as the music I've...

Is that BE playing on Ray Price's "The Other Woman" album? That is some unbelievable tone as well. I just picked up 8 or 9 early 60s Ray Price albums last week. It's a double-header. One of the best pedal steel players ever and one of the best vocalists ever!

Gary, I know how you felt! I just played my first steel gig, and all I kept thinking through the whole thing was, "Isn't this premature?" Lots of fumbling, bum notes, and way too much pumping on the volume pedal. Playing steel involves coordinating so many things, that it's gonna take my b...

Double-8 recommendations

Hi everyone. I've been playing a Carter Starter for a couple of months and then this past week, I saw Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys play at a small club. I had an epiphany watching his steel player, Jimmy Roy. He was playing a double-8 Sho-Bud pedal steel, but he rarely used the two pedals he had ...
