I had 4 Mark III once. Still have a combo 12 and long chassis head only. Always liked them for steel.Lots of options for dialing in a Fender sound. I use a 69 rebuilt twin reverb now w/ Altec Lansing spkrs.

Nothing takes the place of practice. Scales arpeggioes intervals right hand left hand ears etc..
Tone is everything. The right amp. with the right guitar the notes jump out. The combination of both is inspiring. Thats why we are musicions. Thanks Ken

Randy good idea. A tube amp for tone and solid state together for a band with drums. I use a AB box to combine the two. With no drums or rehersal I can use a Deluxe Reverb. Don't tell anyone Some of those Fender amps are getting too expensive.

I recently rebuilt a 2-12 Sound combo cabinet, cut the top off and made a seperate head for the amp. It was pine construction and had 2 nice Jensen spkrs. I belonged to the guitar player for the Republic Tigers. They were on Letterman a couple years ago. He tweaked some tubes and serviced filter caps...

I prefer 2 12's for a quicker response and punchier tone. Altec 417 if you can find them and they are not light.

My original idea was 85to100 watts verses 135 watts. The rebuilt 69 is warmer but less headroom. The 77 ultralinear transformer has more headroom but a little sterile or brittle. MY next comparison would be a/b the speakers. When I started using the 69 I quit using my profex it doesn't need anything...

Twin Reverbs

I just scored a late 70's 130watt twin with JBL's. It's in great shape. A/B with my 69 twin W Altec Lansings. I like the 69 better, warmer yet less headroom. The newer Twin has a ultralinear trans former and is heavier if that is possible. The base player tonight forgot his amp head ! We plugged my ...

What was the question ? 1969 rebuilt Twin w/12" Altec Lansings on most gigs. 1969 Pro with 12" JBL'sometimes. 1969 rebuilt Princeton w/ 10 jenson, recording and acoustic rehersals. Mesa Boogie Mark III combo or head, because they need to be started and driven once in a while. 2005 Zum. sing...

John, Thanks for the technical info. To me it seems a one 12" or one 15" are somewhat directional. Two 12" or four 10" spread the sound more. I like d130's allot. If someone is replaceing a baffle that has been modified it is much easier to unscrew the old style than remove a glue...

I regularly use a 69 Twin with two 12" E.V. 417. It is a tighter more focused sound. I have used reissue Fender and Peavey four 10" I like those also. One consideration is the amount of cone surface. 15"=15". Two 12's=24" Four 10's= 40". I think it makes a difference.Wh...
