Larry, Still haven't found them. I did throw out some I bought from Herb, because they not uniform up the neck. When played open, were o.k., but were either a half of fret below or above when you played them on 12th fret. Pretty sloppy windings!! If you do find some Sho-Bud wound strings, check them...

I had a red and back one that shown at the Dallas show in '68, played by several of the pro's. Chalker liked all the chord possibilities. Jerry Fox bought it, and then sold it to me. I was playing in variety group at the time and DID NOT DARE play crying steel guitar and c/w tunes. I did eventually ...

Never have done this, but remove the bottom board (above pedals), then try a SM 57 Shure mike on a short stand on the floor at the high treble end of strings. try a lot of placements to avoid booming/ feedback. OR, Remove front of piano with the music shelf, so you can see all the keys, place a floo...

This is exactly like mine ! I play it live at local opry's,
using using external mike going into the house PA, I had to put the screens in so as not to cause feedback from too much bass sound coming out of the open sound holes.

Enjoy!

Steel Guitar Rag by Bill Boyd and his Cowboy Ramblers. The day (in April 1953) I got my Gibson lap steel(with the numbers on the frets and amp), I tuned to guitar to the record (had no idea what chords or key was) and learned it before I went to bed that night. A few days later I got a copy of the &...

If you have RFD-TV, Check out the Stars/Legends of the 50's

This may have been discovered by other Forumites. These shows are in great color and high quality sound. Best of all, you get to see and hear the development of the steel guitars and watch the young, budding steel guitarists: Jimmie Day, Buddy Emmons, Bud Issacs and many others up close. I got my fi...

See if anyone on the Forum has the Beginners books by Beverly King. Easy to read and easy to follow songs.

After you do the basics in these books, then find some other books/videos to follow along. Find songs you are familiar with first so you get a melody stated.

I agree with Tim, and also use some pliers to bend spring in so it increases force to contact gear. Use some white lithium grease on gears help quieten any noise. When Hank Thompson and his band were in my home town (Clinton, Oklahoma), in the mid 50's, I was visiting with Bob White while he was tun...
