As stated in the other thread, the photo was taken in Vidor, Texas in 1962 at a benefit. It is Johnny Winter on bass. It was probably a multi-artist show and he agreed to sit in. I don't think Winter ever gigged with Jones. The steel guitarist is unknown, but there were a lot of guys in East Texas i...

This photo was not used in the Bigsby book. It must date from the early 1950s.

Billy Tonneson with Ole Rasmussen's Nebraska Cornhuskers

Here's a rare photo ("rare" because it's not in the Bear Family CD) of Ole Rasmussen.

The steel is Billy Tonneson. Not sure about the rest.

Billy Mize Bigsby photo

This is the earliest photo I've seen of Billy Mize. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30643196@N00/5873631309/in/photostream Billy is third from left. Bill Woods is third from right. One of the others is Cousin Herb Henson and I believe one of the others is Dallas Frazier. Help with IDs is welcome.

That was Ralph "Lefty" Nason. Dunn never played with Thompson.

Early Curly Chalker pic w/Blackie Crawford

http://www.flickr.com/photos/82329524@N00/3448473135/in/photostream/ This is the earliest photo I've seen with Chalker in a band. The group is Blackie Crawford and the Tune Toppers, pre-Western Cherokees. They are playing in a club in Kansas City. I guess the date is 1950 or slightly earlier. There'...

Triplenecks were available in late 1952 and early 1953 as per Gibson price lists. Never saw a picture of Papa Cairo without that particular steel so he must have used it throughout his career. He was a good one too. MLA Thanks. Here's an earlier photo of Cairo with Chuck Guillory and his Rhythm Boy...

I think it's just the rather poor quality of the photo that makes it appear that they are wearing lapel-less "mod" jackets. It's more likely to be mid-50s I think.

Triple-Neck Gibson -- Papa Cairo

I'm trying to establish a probable date for this photo below. The band is Papa Cairo and His Boys, taken in Louisiana. The steel on the far left is a triple-neck Gibson. Can someone tell me when Gibson started marketing triple-necks? http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/4511/papacairobandinraynelo.jpg

Great info, Billy. Thanks for making the effort and posting it here. To help telescope one date: for 1952-54 you mention replacing Bobby Black in Shorty Joe's band while Bobby left to join "a band in Texas in Oklahoma." That band was Blackie Crawford and his Western Cherokees, and Bobby wa...

I don't think the piano player in the Bostonia Ballroom pics was part of Lefty's touring band. Probably picked up on the coast for that tour, or just that night. And he definitely is not Jerry Desormeaux or Harold Carmack.
