I have a late 20s metal square neck tricone, and also a newish Mahogany National tricone with a wood square neck, and the new one is what I play the most. for the music that I write its probably my favorite reso.

Slight correction, I was the second owner. I bought it in 72 (when I was 17). Greg did a great job rebuilding it. Best playing ZB I have ever played.

BJ Cole did all the turnarounds on this. I bet very few people realize it is pedal steel. The middle turnaround is the only one where you can actually hear the pedals.

Bedano PF- Sale pending

Sale pending This is a still in the box virtually unused unit that I bought after my pedals were stolen at the Seattle airport. Or I thought they were stolen, they were merely taken by mistake and returned a couple of weeks later. This is a great sounding unit with pure analog dry path, very springy...

I've never been a fan of amps that are 'voiced' for pedal steel. All my favorite amps are primarily guitar amps (Little Walter 50 and 22, and the THD Bivalve). My favorite 'vintage' amp is an accordion amp (a Sano). All of the solid state steel amps (starting with the Session 400, which is my favori...

My favorite is the Little Walter 22. Here's a clip with a pedal steel, but it sounds quite similar with a lap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97P9sKUE7Uk

For a pedal, if you like the sound of your amp and guitar, but want it 'drivier' there's nothing better than the Earth Drive.

Hey John,

I know what you are talking about. I don't use reverb a lot, but when I do, I like that touch of shimmery, 'Bill Frisell-ish' tail. Not for everybody, but it works for me.

Just saw this. I usually like a plate style reverb with a long decay. It totally works for me. I always set the repeats at zero. I'm not a big spring reverb fan. Actually never been a reverb fan until this pedal (thanks, Brad). Love the analog dry path, it makes all the difference in the world for d...

I think you guys did great, because I never heard any obvious pedal steel in the score. My only clue was in the credits. It was an effective score (if a little relentless and mono-keyed) and maybe other film composers will choose the wall of steel where a honky tonk or a car chase isn't involved.

I'm not an amp builder or an expert on antique engineering, but I have used many, many tube amps over my career. In my recent experience with octal based amps (several Little Walter amps and Brad Sarno's new octal pre) I have noticed a real difference compared to the 9 pin based designs that I've us...

It's important to have very dense foam for the SKB case conversion (actually it's important for all steel cases). You might have to look around to get a supply.

I agree that a case needs to be durable, but light weight is extremely important for those of us who fly to gigs. Any time you check something that's more than 50 lbs, you risk losing all of your profit margin. I'd like to see a carbon fiber case, I know that Carter had an experimental one out. I us...

My favorite cheap amp is any of the Yamaha G100 series with one or two 12" speakers, or single 15" if you can find one. Not as cheap as they used to be, but still a bargain. They sound even better with a JBL or BW speaker. Credit where it's due dept.: Mike Johnstone was the first guy I he...

Sano accordian amp for $300. The best pedal steel amp I've played until the Little Walter. Mine has 1x15 and two car radio type speakers on the side of the cabinet (I think for the tremelo and reverb). Insane tremelo.

One of the main things I noticed about the steel dream was that it doesn't change the dry sound of the instrument at all. It sounded a lot like a configuration I used to use where I go straight into the amp, then from a line out into reverb/delay into a powered cab. This is because the Benaldo has a...
