That seat tray is slick

I like the idea of using the seat. Knobs at your fingertips, less on the floor. I did something similar at one time. Another benefit was you could set it up , hook it up off the bandstand, so, easy one piece on and off. Also like the idea of a smaller footprint on a tight stage, and you’re less like...

15”

I tried it.

My ears were more familiar with the sound of the JBL15” from my tubed twin , but not a real improvement.

Just a bit different, not really a noticeable improvement.

I returned it to the stock configuration. The difference was slight. Hope that helps.

Pinky under here

I’m a pinky tucked under guy, and I need improvement.
Someone asked the question at a teaching seminar. The response was

acoustic

my kid played his martin through my NV400, using the stock pickup in the guitar.

it sounded great at moderate volumes. no feedback, easy to dial in.

this was at a private function, solo , not on a bandstand with bass, drums and such.

you need one that transmits data, not just a charging cable. about $5.

its a breeze once you have the right cable, Fender tech support was a pleasant surprise.

All my steels .

There’s not enough bandwidth.

I do believe if I kept my first pro level steel , (Mullen PRP) , I think I’d sound no better than all the steels I’ve spent a small fortune on.

Jeff Newman interaction

My experience with Jeff was this: Teaching steel was his living. So, even after attending one of his seminars, if I approached him to chat about my steel learning journey, he would quickly terminate the conversation. Teaching steel was his living. When he was teaching , “ the meter was running” he w...

112

I can’t imagine a situation where a 112 isn’t loud enough.
Some of you must play really loud, or at least louder than I can imagine.

I played plenty of large venues with mine without maxing out headroom.

PV issues

I’d take Bills advice about the patch cable. Ken has requested no PMs for Peavey tech advice. Ken’s been extremely generous with the steel community the past few decades, And knows his stuff. I think we all appreciate Ken’s many contributions. Hes busy, but has his own shop . You might inquire about...

yes

there will be new and used steels for sale.
this would be a great place to buy.
it also might be a good idea to post in the "wanted to buy' section, as someone driving to the show may bring one for sale if you express an interest.

Celestion Copperback…

Anyone try the Celestion Copperback for pedal Steel ? I’m considering one, and wondering if anyone has tried one , as well as Copperback vs. the wheelhouse.

Looks like it should be a lightweight contender.

Thanks!

Amp

Some good helpful comments here. I too, wouldnt use a high power dedicated steel amp for a string master. I wouldn’t want a session 500 for that . Sounds like you already have the powerful peavey in the stable. I’d look for something low powered, tubes, and reverb. I used a blackface deluxe or super...

Hight

I’ve used Bicycle (BMX style) hand grips, and golf club hand grips . They slipped over the levers, and were really comfortable.

I’ve also used hard foam and a thin zip tie or two on RKR. Feels good, works good.

Gfi

I really think the GFI is a great guitar. A great value and and underappreciated. I had a D10 keyless, and it was a great guitar. Tuning was rock solid and never had any issues. I really liked the unconventional looks. The joints I work, most folks have never seen a steel anyway . The folks at GFI w...

Tube in a solid state amp.

Susan and Dave both make excellent points. A tube in the preamp section may or may not “warm up” a solid state amp much, I think it all depends on the circuit. I had Brads block box, which was great ,but subtle. Also, running it before the volume pedal likely affected the contribution to its tone en...
